The Drones Have Delivered An Instant Classic Of An Album,
By
This review is from: Wait Long By the River & The Bodies of Your (Audio CD)
Whilst being the antithesis of easy listening, this challenging album is an intensely rewarding, even cathartic experience. The Drones music is raw, raucous, at times brutal, at times surprisingly bittersweet, but always delivered with passion and real feeling. To give you an idea of their sound, imagine the lacerating twin guitar attack of MC5, Neil Young and Crazy Horse or The Beasts of Bourbon, with the art rock edge of Sonic Youth thrown in. But The Drones are much more than the sum of their infuences; their music takes the listener on journey into the heart of darkness, through a soundscape as stark and desolate as the Australian outback. It's the perfect antidote to Celine Dion! Hear it and be amazed.

Binge drinking from a nasty strain of something.......,
By
This review is from: Wait Long By the River & The Bodies of Your (Audio CD)
This is to me the sound of the wide blue yonder, of the horizon stretching on forever, of white line fever of finally arriving somewhere and finding out it's worse than where you just left. This CD is not one you will play every day (eventually). It is however one which will probably always scare/provoke or affect you in some way. Even if only to hope that Gareth Liddiard and Co haven't actually lived these songs. Like watching a comet go overhead, get a glimpse now before they burn out. Perhaps one of the few truly original lyric writers left out there. Buy.

it doesn't get much better than this,
This review is from: Wait Long By the River & The Bodies of Your (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite records and I would recommend it as an introduction to the Drones. If you are a fan of Neil Young, The Birthday Party, Beasts of Bourbon, The Pogues, The Scientists, Bob Dylan, et al., this band is for you.
Vocalist/guitarist Gareth Liddiard is one the most provocative lyricists/songwriters of our time. Some people might have trouble getting past his idiosynchratic phrasing and nasally voice, but if something familiar is what one is after, there are droves of clichéd pop stars out there who are banking on the opportunity to provide that sort of comfort, so have at it.
