4.0 out of 5 stars I'm Thankful For The Feeling This Music Brings!
Susan Tedeschi is one of the great artists in music today - blues, pop, rock, folk whatever you want to call her. Her 2nd album garnered her a best new artist nomination that she deserved to win. 3.0 out of 5 stars A passion-ectomy?
If you were as excited as I was about the passion that Susan shared on the "Let it Burn" album, then this album may be a bit disappointing. "Wait for Me" is mixed better that her prior recordings, but comes across as a garden variety bar blues, devoid of the gut-wrenching vocals she displayed on her earlier works, and what she has demonstrated...

Susan Tedeschi is one of the great artists in music today - blues, pop, rock, folk whatever you want to call her. Her 2nd album garnered her a best new artist nomination that she deserved to win. That album, Just Won't Burn, is her best! It combines blues, rock, folk, and a bit of country tinged blues for a kickin' record. Her first album, Better Days, is very rough-hewn and more akin to Just Won't Burn. Here on Wait for Me we see a more subdued Susan Tedeschi. She's seems to be staying strictly with the blues here and focusing less on pop, rock, etc. Whereas earlier we heard some of Janis Joplin in those vocals now we see more of Bonnie Raitt which isn't bad but one longs for an artist who can't be confined by genre. Still, this album is a major success for any fan of real music - blues or otherwise. Highlights here are Alone, Gonna Move, Wrapped in the Arms of Another (really more of a ballad)and The Feeling Music Brings and I Fell in Love which are really the only two songs where Susan rocks and she succeeds in spades. Blues on Holiday is the best track on this record though. It's simple guitar and harmonica accompaniment and Susan's sweet vocals make it one of Susan's best ever.

Susan Tedeschi is a phenom. I hope she gets the recognition in the music world she deserves. Still, something tells me she is just fine singing the blues in blues cafe in front of a small crowd of fans and selling 10 records. She's in the business for the music and that's what I call a true artist. Don't make us wait to long for another album and please folks if you get a chance to see Susan perform live - DO SO!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tedeschi picks up the slack... I want more!, December 23, 2004
This review is from: Wait for Me (Audio CD)
October 23, 2002
Artist; Susan Tedeschi
Title: Wait For Me
Rating: Very Good

In 1989 a six-year sober Bonnie Raitt bedazzled a beleaguered music industry with the multi- platinum, multi-Grammy album, `Nick of Time.' After more than twenty years, Raitt had finally struck gold. The "sound" of Raitt's wagon-load of Grammy album was not new - her refreshed pop sense with a blues base got her on the radio airplay but it was the ballads that struck a nerve with listeners. For the next decade Raitt would be the world's darling lending her bully pulpit to social & environmental causes.

Upon the death of Stevie Ray Vaughan in August 1990, Raitt would add the weight of being the blues only major cross-over artist on her slim shoulders. Thanks to the momentum of Stevie Ray Vaughan, `the blues' art-form was vibrant throughout the `90's. As the impact of downloading and burning began to reverberate, major labels sang the blues over financial losses. As result, labels cut artists and ad budgets. Consequently the blues' popularity has been on the down-swing since the new millennium.

Tone Cool's Susan Tedeschi may provide the thumb in the dike to stem the blues' ebbing popularity. For a blues album to sell 50,000 units is a smashing success. Tedeschi's last album, Just Won't Burn, sold more than ½ million albums. With the release of her newest effort (November 19th), Wait For Me, Tedeschi will surely substantially best her last effort. It's a terrific album jam packed with superb vocal performances, strong songs, and excellent arrangements. Included on the album are two previously released tracks. `In the Garden' appeared on Double Trouble's latest release (along with a cover of Led Zeppelin's, `Rock -n- Roll.' `Baby You're Right' appears on Tedeschi's husband Derek Trucks' latest stellar release, Joyful Noise.' A nephew of Allman Brothers bass player `Butch' Trucks, Derek Trucks played with the Allman Brothers Band for much of last year with Tedeschi's band opening. Consequently, Tedeschi's sound has matured substantially into a more rock oriented sound. Like Raitt's, Nick of Time, Tedeschi has mixed tasty ballads with upbeat rockers. Tedeschi is backed by a smoking guitar and humping organ (players unknown at this time). Also covered on the album is Dylan's, 'Don't Think Twice.' While blues purists continue to embrace Tedeschi, `Wait for Me' is sure to be a cross-over hit that rock fans are going to relate. While today's helter-skelter music world leaves it up to anyone's guess, it will be interesting to see if radio `gets it' and hops on board a sure thing early in the cycle or will it wait?

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Susan, December 17, 2002

I simply do not understand the folks out there who do not appreciate this CD. Every song is outstanding, especially Gonna Move, that tune just makes me wanna dance. Susan's voice is magical, melodical, bringing me to tears on several tracks. Yes, Just Won't Burn is a more raw and gritty recording, but that was a few years ago, and we can't expect artists to stay the same just for us, they must grow and change like everyone else. I would imagine that Susan has had some new influences in her music after touring with that "band" called the Allman Brothers and other greats. The guitars, both Susan's and Derek's, just blow me away. But is her sweet voice that keeps me playing this CD over and over again. It is afterall, Susan's choice to record and release what she wants. And I love it. True Susan fan's will fall in love with this CD. Can't wait to see what she can do next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who says it won't burn, October 17, 2005
This review is from: Wait for Me (Audio CD)
An awesome Cd. The disc opens with the Al Green influenced memphis soul number Alone, which alone is worth the price of the disc. Followed by the late Paul Pena's Gonna Move featuring some tasty slide by husband Derek Trucks. (Must be nice to call on the best slide player in the world for your CD) Other highlights include a wicked version of Don't Think Twice It's All Right and a blistering I Fell In Love. Also included are a tip of the hat to Atlanta music legend Bruce Hampton and a smoky Blues on a Holiday.

Though this has been out for a year or more, if you don't own it you should get it today.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate waiting, but I LOVE this record!, November 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Wait for Me (Audio CD)
After four years it was about time for a new Susan Tedeschi record, and this one proves well worth the wait. The lead track, "Alone", is a gem! It sounds like your favorite Al Green tune that you never heard. Her voice is supple and covers a much wider and deeper range than on her first album, Just Won't Burn. Susan's husband Derek Trucks kicks in some burning slide guitar on two cuts. The title track is a classic blues torch song. The sound of the album is clean and shows off Susan's gorgeous voice without a bunch of needless gloss. This record should get her some of the respect that she deserves.

I liked Just Won't Burn but this is better (true, more mainstream than blues). Her voice is wonderful and the instrumentals are more polished than before. Keep 'er going Boston Girl!

5.0 out of 5 stars To each his/her own.., December 27, 2002

...I get so irritated when people want to pigeonhole an artist according to THEIR own tastes. If you don't like a woman doing blues, don't bother to buy the record. Period. Don't bash her work or her talent. Susan Tedeschi has rocked my world from the word go and this CD is certainly no exception. So worth the wait. I say to the blues purists, it is better to say nothing at all than to be rude and totally diss her music. Susan has style, passion and grit. She never claimed to be a genius...she's just a woman who loves to play and share her music. So unless you people put out your OWN albums, I think you owe the woman at least some measure of respect. Women musicians are still coming into their own in the male-dominated music industry. She just proves that she can break out of the mold and rock with the best of them. Again, I recommend this CD wholeheartedly.

If you were as excited as I was about the passion that Susan shared on the "Let it Burn" album, then this album may be a bit disappointing. "Wait for Me" is mixed better that her prior recordings, but comes across as a garden variety bar blues, devoid of the gut-wrenching vocals she displayed on her earlier works, and what she has demonstrated live.

I have seen Susan live twice, and was anticipating this album for some time (as the last show she covered some of the tracks). I was a little disappointed in the recorded tracks of her new material, as they did not reflect her real presence. I realize that Susan is going through some big life changes that may have influenced this album. I have seen unbelievable live performances which showcase her incredible talents. I hope that she can capture some of the passion she exudes in her live performances and stamp in on a disk some time, but until then, its probably not a bad idea, as the album says, to wait.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened? I'll tell ya', February 17, 2004

This review is from: Wait for Me (Audio CD)
All those wondering what happened to the killer guitar work on her first album need to realize that that was not her playing, but a young and really soulful player by the name of Sean Costello. It was a great combination... if you're a blues fan, or a blues guitar fan in particular, you'd be better off getting Sean Costello's Moanin' for Molasses. That one's killer all the way through. In my alternate universe he's the big star...
