A Great Sequal to Summer Path,
By

This review is from: Waiting for Autumn (Hardcover)
Scott Blum has done it again! After reading Summer Path, which just happened to have been a free download to my computer, I had to purchase his next book Waiting for Autumn. This was the first book that I pre-ordered before it even hit the bookstore shelves. I waited for more than a month for it's release and must say that when it arrived I wasn't disappointed!
The book is one that is a page turner and can easily be read in an afternoon. The chapters are short but filled with action and emotion and the ending of the book comes with a bit of a surprise. I'd love to elaborate on the story but for fear of revealing too much to the reader, I won't. I will say that it definitely is NOT a disappointment and look forward to Scott's next book!

Waiting For Autumn--A Beautiful Story,
By Judith Orloff, MD (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waiting for Autumn (Hardcover)
Waiting for Autumn by DailyOM co-founder Scott Blum, is an uplifting story about the power of healing that is interwoven with Scott's personal experiences. This is a story that comes from the heart. This book tells of a seeker who meets a mysterious cardboard-sign-toting homeless man named Robert who has a sleepy puppy at his side and a skill for changing lives. Sparked by Robert's unconventional wisdom, Scott is thrust into a spiritual adventure where he attempts to heal his past while confronting the spirit of his fiancee. Lovely and inspiring.

Shared Spiritual Journey,

I received Waiting For Autumn as a gift a couple of weeks ago. Something drew me to read it ahead of many other books and projects. I was not disappointed. Scott Blum has painted a wonderful picture of his journey and events that led to his accelerated connection to Spirit. His story is well worth reading, as there are several twists to it that will come as a surprise.
Seldom have we had anyone write a diary of sorts to explain what they went through. Scott's thoughts and experiences may be hard for some people to understand, but he is bold and clear in words. For me, it was a great way to have a further understanding of the link that we have between the physical world and the beauty and availability of the world of God and Spirit. If you truly understand what he went through, then you will also not be able to look at some of the nuances in life the same way. Still Waiting,
By EILEEN O. (Huntington, New York) - See all my reviews

Not sure what to say, because I applaud anyone who has the courage and tenacity to go out there and write a book that gets published so I don't want to hurt any feelings or squash Scott Blum's creative confidence. However, this being a forum for reviews, I have to give my honest reaction. This book was a huge let down. I was so excited by the promotion for this that I instantly bought two: one for me, one for my mother. We set out to read simulatneously and discuss later. Well, we've both read it...but literally have had nothing to discuss. It is written so simplistically as to be almost juvenile in nature. I kept waiting for the meat of it to begin - for the real heart of it to open up and make sense. It dabbled in a bunch of catch-phrasey spiritual healing modalities, most of which came across sounding like a kid in a candy store naming some of the cool stuff he's tried. So much of it seemed not-quite-believable or not-quite-real, as there is a lot of back and forth between present-moment and far-out spacey perceptive shifts that he either experienced or maybe thought would be neat to write about for entertainment purposes? Not sure, but for me it lacked depth and meaning. The only thing that kept me reading was the wish that it would get better. It didn't, and then the trite ending only added to my frustration. The best thing about this book is that it made me realize that really anyone can write a book and get it published if they want to, and so it has inspired me to dream up the book I'll be writing... (Then Scott will have a chance to review it here!)

Interesting spiritual quest,

I have to admit that I have ambivalent feelings towards this book. I started reading it all excited and got really into it, but all of a sudden I just couldn't go on. I lost interest. And it actually took me a couple of months to pick the book again.
What I like of the book is the different stages of the author's personal spiritual quest. Which started involuntarely and ended with full consciousness of what he was doing and going through. I don't have a hard time believing that he saw all those things in the spiritual world, and not because it isn't true, but because many people make it seem so easy to do, and it's actually quite hard to get into that world. You really have to have worked in your spiritual growth to get a grasp of all that there is to see and experience there. But still, I do understand all the processes he went through and I think that they are always different for everyone. And some people do come into your life exactly to motivate this kind of quest. What I didn't like about the book is that although he explains his process he really doesn't go much into the emotional consequences of it. He talks about the physical experiences but how it really impacted his emotional life is much of a mistery. If someone is really able to go beyond and enter the spirit world and see all that he saw there has to be some change in the emotional and spiritual body, not just the mental and physical ones. Overall it's an ok book. I'm not sure if I would read something else written by him. Although I did have have high hopes for this book when I got it, maybe it's just me, or maybe I was expecting much more or something else entirely. I guess it all comes to each readers taste.

Captivating story in a beautiful little package!,

When I first saw Waiting for Autumn advertised on the Daily OM as a free download of the first three chapters, I KNEW there was some reason I was supposed to read this book. I downloaded and read those chapters, then immediately put my shoes on and went to the local bookstore to buy the book. They only had one copy left....and that's when I knew it was waiting for me and there was a special reason I was meant to read this book.
I could not put the book down and when I got to Chapter Six and the 'Constellation' session....I had a very profound experience! This part of the book spoke so personally to me that I could barely breathe. Scott Blum is an exceptional author and story teller. I hung on every word and cannot wait for Summer's Path in hard cover next year! Thank you Scott for this little treasure!!

The only reason I ordered Scott Blum's book is because there was an offer of a spa treatment in one of my favorite cities in the U.S. - Ashland Oregon. I figured a chance at that was worth whatever they were asking for the book. When it arrived, I really loved the look and feel of the book. It fit nicely in my hand and the cover was a muted rust tone, very tasteful and smooth and I recall thinking how pretty it was. I put it aside and learned later via email that some guy had won the spa offer, but that with that email they were offering to have you download the first chapter or so in order to enter the contest again. I did it and got hooked!
Read the first three chapters on the laptop, then raced around to find where I had left the book, and didn't put it down for two days. Some things had been happening in my life that Scott's book finally helped me articulate to myself and to others, to my great relief. For example: "conscious food". That phrase finally helped me explain to friends why I wouldn't go to certain restaurants anymore and was only interested in organic, vegatarian, vegan or raw restaurants where the owners were there most of the time handing me my food and asking how it was. Their excitement and love for what they do shows in their eyes as they watch you eat their food. THAT's conscious food! I also found my heart teacher in a strange place and immediately connected with Scott's character and the opening conversations he had with his unlikely teacher. I felt the story went "out there" on a few occasions, but thought those were entertaining moments and wasn't offended or put off by them at all. I knew it wasn't my journey, but enjoyed going there with him anyway. This book was a highly entertaining read in a new (old) field and I loved every minute of it. Most of my friends are not growing with me, and this book made me feel like there are entire communities of people who are consciously seeking to grow and learn and made me feel less alone on my path. I've just recommended it to a local bookstore, Mystic Journey in Venice, CA. I sent the book to my heart teacher in Honolulu, who read it in one night and love it as well.

The author actually transported me to Ashland and made his characters come alive. When I finished this book, I immediately took it to my twenty year old daughter and told her it was a must read. I look forward to this author's future works.

Disappointing,
By Avi Josephson (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waiting for Autumn (Hardcover)
I enjoy reading just about anything about spiritual subjects. In promotions this book had been compared to The Alchemist and the Celestine Prophesy, and I eagerly awaited its arrival. I am sad to report that, despite what seems like an earnest attempt by the author, the book falls far short of its hype. The story is self-serving, indulgent and predictable. The prose and writing style of the author is uninspiring and labored. I really wanted to stop reading the book about half way through, but since Scot Blum is a new author, I kept reading and hoping the story would improve (I really did want to enjoy the book.) In short, it didn't improve and was very disappointing.

This is an uplifting story about following your path. Scott's story is a good reminder that following the calling of Spirit truly is an adventure to ourselves. The way is always there. This is a great read!
