5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Toddlers!
It can be very difficult to find a book that discusses the "waiting" process before a new sibling arrives in a family. It is even more difficult to find a book that will keep the attention of a 2 1/2 year old. This book covers all of these obstacles and my son LOVES it!

1.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't really have much to do with a baby at all
I just bought this book for our toddler son, we're expecting a baby in a few months. But this book is pretty useless. It really just talks about all the different ways the little boy amuses himself while waiting for the baby to be born. And that's pretty much it. It could have been about him waiting for Christmas to arrive, and the book would not have been much different.

It can be very difficult to find a book that discusses the "waiting" process before a new sibling arrives in a family. It is even more difficult to find a book that will keep the attention of a 2 1/2 year old. This book covers all of these obstacles and my son LOVES it!

This book discusses a boy named Max waiting for his new sibling to arrive (sister). He does all sorts of things to get the baby's attention inside his mommy's tummy. You can be creative in the way you read this book to your child ,and he/she will find even more enjoyment in the inside cover pages that show the year before the baby is born, and the year after the baby is born.

This book was worth every penny I spent for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story!, January 1, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Waiting for Baby (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old nephew when we found out he is going to be a big brother (of course, the fact that his name is Max clinched the sale!). This book is his current favorite...he knows it by heart and likes to "read" it on his own or to others. The story is written in the third person, but at a level that he can understand and relate to. My nephew especailly loves to look at the pictures in the front and back cover (which depict the year leading up to the baby's birth and the year following the baby's birth) and the two pages where Max does special things with his parents (ride his bike, play ball, go on a long walk, etc.) My next purchase will be a story about living with a new baby, since this one was such a big hit!

5.0 out of 5 stars My 3 -and-1/2-year-old son loves this book!, February 22, 2001

We're expecting our second child in a few months, and my son (3 and 1/2) loves the idea that he is going to be a "big brother." This book really highlights some of the feelings he's got -- even though our delivery is months away, not days. We especially like the pages printed on the inside-front and inside-rear covers, which show vignettes from the year in which the baby is born (including full term of pregnancy) and the year after the baby is born. Every time we sit down to read this book, we end up having a half-hour conversation about how my son is going to be such a big helper when the baby comes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hurry Up, Baby!, April 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Waiting for Baby (Hardcover)
My mother gave this book to my 3 year old daughter when she started to become very impatient for her new little brother to arrive. It is a fun story about how Max deals with his frustration that his new baby sister is taking her time in being born. He even tries a little reverse psychology! My daughter loved this book, and still wants to read it even though her "new baby" brother is now 6 months old!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for my 4 year old, September 29, 2010

My four year old son has wanted to read this book daily since we got it. The cadance and flow of the words is enjoyable. It even goes through the days of the week, which is helpful in the Pre-K stage. As I'm 27 weeks pregnant, he has so much in common with little boy Max. My son is also waiting on a sister.

4.0 out of 5 stars A cute story, July 6, 2010
This review is from: Waiting for Baby (Hardcover)
Poor Max has been waiting for the new baby to be born for nine long months, and his patience is beginning to wear thin. He begins trying everything he can think of to entice the baby out, and finally...his persistence pays off!

This is a cute story, just right for the young reader who has a sibling on the way. I got the book for a friend who is in just this situation, and her toddler really loved the book - capturing as it did his feelings as well. He loves the book, and I am very glad that I bought it!

I bought this book for my 2 year old twins to help them understand that we're having a new baby. I loved the little boy in the story (especially the songs he sings to the baby in order to get it to come out of his mom's tummy!) and it was very well written for the audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Fun!, July 6, 2005

This was a great tool for my son. He was 3 when we were expecting, and this book really got him involved. After two years, he still sings the chicken song from it. We ordered many big brother books for him, and this one was the only one he was interested in. Wanted it read every night. Once he got into the book, he couldn't wait for his little sister to arrive. I highly recommend. In fact, this is the second one I have purchased as a gift.

My son just turned two and my husband and I are expecting #2 any day. Our son is an avid reader so we bought several books to "ease" him into the idea of a younger sibling. This book is a great addition. I purchased the hardcover version which has thicker, glossy pages (harder to tear). The story is very cute and my son loves reading it.
