The next big thing,
By D Simons (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

If you like The Killers you will LOVE Brittlestar. Dark lyrics arranged with simple melodies, guitars and retro-synths. This album is a find. The only drawback is that it's only a matter of time before everyone else catches on.

Catchy Uplifting Pop,

Listen to the sample MP3, you'll hear what I mean.
These songs might be compared to a Matthew Sweet or A.C. Newman, but with brighter, shinier production, better vocals and more ambitious pop melodies. I haven't seen Brittlestar live, but I suspect that with less gloss in the mix they'll absolutely shred. Waiting is a great all-around recording with songs that should enjoy broad appeal with music fans. The Myagi mixes are not throw-aways, but rather highlights (particularly infectious at that). The only drawback is that Waiting could easily explode into the next hyped thing. As much as I'd hate to see that, this record easily has the goods, and given that, I'm more than happy to pour gasoline ;^) on the fire.

Waiting - A pop treasure,
By Steve Stan "miller. man" (Sunniest Devon, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waiting (Audio CD)
Put simply this is a fabulous album, and if you are a lover of classic guitar pop then this album is a must buy. It takes a talented writer and performer to write such classic pop songs and then make them seem so effortless (he obviously knows what he is doing). The songs are universal, but somehow manage to deftly walk the line and avoid all the usual clichés. Whilst the hooks really sink into you - big style, the chorus's shimmer, lift you off your feet and then carry you away on their irresistible breeze. The clever melodies are so strong that you would almost be convinced that melody is suddenly fashionable again, and the "slow" songs nuzzle the right part of the ear, just like they used to do in days gone by. It's is a pop gem, a hugely impressive meld of masterful songwriting tailored inside beautiful performance. This album is a real find, it's timeless guitar pop with a degree of quality that you won't often find these days. Get Waiting, treasure its songs and count yourself lucky that you found it when you did.
