Roberts uses the technique of a story-within-a-story as, on December twenty-fourth, Papa Rabbit reads seven short holiday tales that reflect the traditions of Christmas--writing letters, baking cookies, wrapping packages, decorating trees, hanging stockings, singing carols, and presenting gifts. The voices of the unusual minor characters, such as a mailbox, a rolling pin, a gift box, and a treetop star, provide a refreshing tone to these gentle episodes about an extended family of bunnies. Delicate, watercolor paintings in rich hues, featuring long-eared rabbits, aptly carry the Christmas sentiments across the pages. This small volume is nice for sharing one-on-one. On Christmas Eve, little bunnies are tucked into bed, while Papa Rabbit reads them seven tiny holiday tales. The stories, about the joy of Christmas preparations, include such fun characters as a tree-top star that wants a present, a talking mailbox, and a grumbling package. The final story is a sweet story about homemade, heartfelt giving. When the bunnies wake up- it's Christmas! The adorable bunny illustrations in bright, festive, holiday colors depict a warm, lively, loving bunny family.

This is a fun, cozy, holiday read-aloud, just right to read to your own little bunnies, and simple enough for beginning readers to read on their own. A great gift idea, or add to your own holiday collection!

This book is a great book full of short stories about most things related to christmas and what families do at christmas time ! we read this book at bedtime a little each night! I have 2 boys ages 7 & 8 they both seemed to really like it! and even asked to hear more each night! even starting over and reading it again! I got this book 3 days after ordering which also made me very happy!
