I bought this book because of the subject matter.......a young wife and mother loses her whole family and is taken in by a Mennonite family in Kansas. I thought it might be a nice little story, but was not overly impressed with the cover art, and was not really expecting a whole lot. I ended up really enjoying this book and am passing it on to the library to go on their shelf. I found that the characters were very real and easy to identify with and like. The main character, Summer, struggles with her grief and consequently her relationship with God, in a way most of us confronted with tragedy could understand. As she lives with the widower Peter, his son, and grandmother, she begins to come to terms with these conflicts as well as with her growing feelings for the family that has taken her in. Throw in conflict from a community that regards her with suspicion, Summer's sense of duty to her belated husband's family, and just everyday life on the harsh Kansas prairie, and you end up with an interesting, gentle read that was hard for me to put down. I will be reading more by this author.

I believe all Kim Vogel Sawyer books are great reading. Ihave read many books by this author and I can honestly say I loved them all. Great reading for anyone. I would give these books all a 5 star plus rating
