Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

She was waiting for love--and found it in the most unexpected place.

Jorie King's life is on hold. She has been waiting for Ben Zook to return to Lancaster County. Waiting for him to settle down and join the church. Waiting to marry him.

But when news arrives that Ben has been killed, Jorie is devastated. She finds unlikely comfort in the friendship of his brother Caleb. Friendship ripens into love, and two broken hearts plan for a life filled with the promise of a fresh beginning--until their worlds are turned upside down.

With her realistic characters whose weaknesses develop into strengthes, Suzanne Woods Fisher offers a reading experience that rises above the others. You will love growing in spirit with these complex people living the simple life as The Waiting transports you into a world where things aren't as simple as they seem.

"More than just a story of the Amish, The Waiting is the story of a woman, sometimes triumphant, sometimes struggling, carried through turbulent times by a plain faith."--Lisa Wingate, national bestselling author of Tending Roses and Never Say Never

"Fisher takes the sweet story expected in Amish fiction and adds a kick of realism. I treasured my time with Jorie King and the whole Zook family, sharing their grief and laughter--what a lovely read."--Sarah Sundin, author of Wings of Glory series

Suzanne Woods Fisher's interest in the Anabaptist culture can be directly traced to her grandfather, W. D. Benedict, who was raised in the Old Order German Baptist Brethren Church in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Suzanne is the author of The Choice, Amish Peace, and Amish Proverbs. She hosts an internet radio show called Amish Wisdom and lives with her family in California.

More About the Author

In no particular order, Suzanne Woods Fisher is a wife, mother, writer, lifelong student of the Bible, host of Amish Wisdom (a weekly radio show), raiser of puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, a gardener and a cook...the latter two with sporadic results.

Suzanne has loved to write since she was a young teen. After college, she started to write for magazines and became a contributing editor for Christian Parenting Today magazine. Her family moved to Hong Kong for four years, just as the internet was developing, and she continued to write articles in a 44-story high-rise apartment, sending manuscripts 7,000 miles away with a click of a key.

After returning from Hong Kong, Suzanne decided to give her first novel a try. For four and a half months, she worked on an antediluvian computer in a cramped laundry room. She didn't even tell her husband what she was up to. When the novel was completed, she told her family at dinner one night that she had written a book. "That's why there's no food in this house!" said her slightly insensitive sons.

Undaunted...Suzanne found a small royalty publisher for that book and wrote three more (all earned multiple). With help from an agent, she has five books currently under contract with Revell. On September 1st, Amish Peace: Simple Wisdom for a Complicated World, a non-fiction book of stories and examples about the Old Order Amish, will be released by Revell. The Choice, a novel about the Amish, will follow on January 1st.

Writing, for Suzanne, is a way to express a love of God and His word. With every book or article, she hopes readers get a sense of what faith really looks like in the daily grind. She hopes they realize that life can be hard, but God is good, and never to confuse the two.

5.0 out of 5 stars A FABULOUS MUST READ!!! October 14, 2010
Format:Paperback
First, let me start this review off with this: Suzanna Woods Fisher is my Julie Lessman of Amish novels!!! She is FANTABULOUSLY AMAZING!!! I first read her novel, The Choice, last year when it released and that was when I was introduced to her novels. Boy, am I glad of that, too! Never, in a million years, did I think I would be hooked on an Amish author the way I am hers. I mean, I read Amish novels by Wanda Brunstetter, Beverly Lewis, Cindy Woodsmall, just to name a few. But Suzanne's books are P-O-W-E-R-F-U-L. You can feel every bit apart of the story as if Suzanne was writing about YOU!

In The Waiting, we get a glimpse back into time with this Amish story. It's a unique story, as we read about heartache and pain, laughter and love, and....secrets. So many amazing secrets that make up the twists and turns of this fantastic continuation to Suzanne's Lancaster County Secrets series. The thing that makes this so unique to me is this: Suzanne combines two very DIFFERENT subjects and blend them into one.....the war and the Amish. It was VERY interesting to read those subjects together, as when you read about Amish, they are VERY quiet and loving people.

As I was reading this very interesting combination plot line, I felt a pull to ALL the characters, like little Maggie, and even to Esther. But, my biggest pull was to sweet, loving Jorie. She wanted nothing but love and happiness and it seemed for her, she might not find that. I kept wanting to reach out to her and pull into a motherly hug, and tell her all would be alright. Now, just because I was pulled to Jorie, that didn't mean I didn't like the other characters any less! I LOVED Caleb's character. His chiseled character was wonderful and added so much meaning to the story. I wanted to be Jorie so many times! Wonderful work!!!

This story has something for every book lover. It has many secrets and twists for the suspense lover. It has romance for the romance lover. It has a wonderful Christian message for the Christian novel lover. It has laughter woven through the words for the humor lover. It has history for the history lover, war for the military lover and most importantly, it has Amish for all us Amish lovers! This is most definitely, hands down, no doubt about it a 5 (or 50!) star book that would make the PERFECT Christmas gift for any book lover! While it is book 2 in a series, it is a wonderful book that would be easy to follow along with out being confused and would be a great stand alone title! I can't wait for book 3, The Search, to release in January 2011.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for the best October 1, 2010
By Igrant
Format:Paperback
As a reader of all Suzanne Woods Fisher's books, I knew another story development with deepth was in my hands in few pages.

Little did I know that I would read Suzanne's latest book non-stop, sit in the woods with Ephriam , work with Jorie in the barn, call out to no one in particular, " Hush, Caleb", listen and learn as the story progressed while falling in love with the King and Zook family!..

Twists and turns, ups and downs, in and out, strong and weak-all a part of this grand story. THE SURPRISE? You will want to reread the story and catch the family dynamics to put in your own heart to remember.

Igrant.

5.0 out of 5 stars rosalie speaks October 3, 2010

I loved the "The Waiting". It was very hard to put down so I finished it in record time. I was impressed with the way Jorie taught her students, and the way Cal took care of his family. I thought I knew where Suzanne was going with Ben's death----a switch in dog tags so he could go into the English world. I liked Suzanne's version better. As always the author brought in how important it is to forgive and never give up on love. This book is awesome!
