Editorial Reviews

2006 album from this Progressive Metal band, the first album to feature new vocalist Tommy Karevik. Seventh Wonder was formed in 2000 by bass player Andreas Blomqvist, guitarist Johan Liefvendahl and drummer Johnny Sandin after their previous band fell apart. The music turned towards the progressive side of metal and as the band was joined by keyboard player Andreas S”derin late 2000,The brilliant Karevik (ex: Vindictiv) was spotted and he joined the band in 2005. The album has been mixed and mastered by legendary Tommy Hansen (Helloween, T.N.T) and engineered by Daniel Flores (Mind's Eye) and Seventh Wonder. Lion Music.

Hard-hitting and dynamic progressive music.

I am more of a "music" person than a "lyric" one, however in order to sing along you must know them.

It's intricate & sort of symphonic @ times with spot on vocals!

First off this has some of the best melodies and vocals of the last few years in Progressive metal. The album has some wonderful singing and great melodic textures. If you enjoy Symphony X and Dream Theater, with beautiful vocals and awesome guitar work then you should pick this cd up.

This CD has NOT been removed from my car since I got it. I was impressed with their first CD until I got this one. Love the new singer much more than the first. I am more of a "music" person than a "lyric" one, however in order to sing along you must know them. I have to say, strange lyrics. Once I read along with them, call me strange but my perspective on the songs changed, but I don't know exactly how. Anyway, a must have !!!

Often, in anticipation of a new release, I enjoy sifting back through a band's catalog. Occasionally a release might not be as great as I may have once thought, but most often I am pleased and surprised at the quality. Such is certainly the case with Sweden's Seventh Wonder. In lieu of the new album coming in 2015 (but we've been hearing this for 2 years now right?) and the fact that this was their first release with Tommy Karevik on vocals I felt Waiting In The Wings was well worth revisiting. Originally released in 2006 this created quite a stir in the underground progressive metal crowd. Not only did Karevik make his cameo appearance here, but the band really stepped up the quality of the playing/writing compared to 2005's Become. Andreas Blomqvist (bass), Andreas Söderin (keys), Johan Liefvendahl (guitars) and Johnny Sandin proved that they were a more than credible musical quartet - these songs filled with plenty of blistering and passionate output from all four. But the dynamic Karevik - who remains in the band despite also now fronting Kamelot (vocals on Silverthorn) - was the biggest surprise/highlight. Right from the vocal solo on the opening track "Star of David" it was apparent he had tremendous talent. As most fans know, he also provided the vocals for the band's subsequent releases Mercy Falls (2008) and The Great Escape (2010). In addition, he performs as the main character on Ayreon's 2013 release The Theory of Everything.

So how does this release sound in 2015? Not surprisingly and quite simply ... vital! Compared to the likes of Cloudscape, Circus Maximus and of course Dream Theater, the style is clearly melodic progressive metal - but Karevik brings an AOR meets power metal quality to SW which I find incredibly refreshing.

In my opinion , people who like dream theater or maybe threshold would like this. It's intricate & sort of symphonic @ times with spot on vocals! Glad I found it, give it a spin!!

Purchased this after The Great Escape and Mercy Falls. Great musicianship and vocals. Can't wait for the next release. Nothing short of Perfect Prog Metal.
