5.0 out of 5 stars John Mayer's Defining Tune, November 4, 2008
This review is from: Waiting On The World To Change (MP3 Download)
The catchy radio-sensation is a quite interesting listen, and it really speaks the the artistic integrity and under-lying political side of Mr. Mayer. Why the strange chorus? Well if Mayer sung "We're going to change, we're going to change the world," he figured that the listener would be like, "Yeah, I'm going to change this station." But as is, it's a call for change, and speaks more directly with more impact. The listener then identifies with the song, and is like, "Yeah, that's how I feel!" And this is by no means an anti-war track as some have made it to be. If he is anti-war, it's not explicitly stated in the least bit, in this song. This is a change track, to which I wonder where I could fit an Obama reference in here or there, or somewhere/anywhere.

Cap all this off with some ultra catchy vibes floating around, and more great guitar work, and you got a true winner. I'm just amazed the radio crowd embraced it so much. I guess all hope is not lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Defining Moments, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Waiting On The World To Change (MP3 Download)
Most artist have a defining moment...a song or an album that they will be associated with for the rest of their lives.

Most of those artist's have written songs of empowerment and hope.

examples:

Sam Cooke and "A Change Is Gonna Come"

Marvin Gaye and "Whats Going On"

Curtis Mayfield "People Get Ready"

Bob Dylan "Blowin In The Wind"

Isaac Hayes and "Soulsville"

Bobby Womack and "American Dream"

Michael Jackson/Lionel Richie "We Are The World"

John Mayer reminds me of a few of these artist's all wrapped up in one

He has the Soul of Marvin Gaye

The Directness Of Sam Cooke

and the Finesse of Curtis Mayfield.

I love this song..truly with all of my heart..i fell in love with it the first time i heard it and i am still in love with it.

The music is mellow and the way JM phrases the melody he wrote combined with the bells playing the hook it almost sounds like a lullaby.

There is a new version on a CD Called "YES WE CAN VOICES OF A GRASS ROOTS MOVEMENT" that has excerpts of President Barack Obama's speech in it that i love.

It sent chills through me to hear his speech in the song just as Dr. MLK Jr. sent chills through me while he was speaking in Bobby Womacks song "American Dream"

I wish J-May the best of success and i feel that "Waiting On The World To Change" will be the song that will define him and his career for years to come.
