Soul stirring music with lyrics far from cliche,

This review is from: The Waiting (Audio CD)
It seems like the only place in Christian music that does not continually rehash the same phrases and thoughts is the alternative arena, especially since the demise of our beloved Rich Mullins. The Waiting provides the compelling feel of the alternative sound with lyrics that do more than merely fill the space between musical jams or carry the melody. I have been encouraged and challenged meditating on their lyrics during my devotional times.

This is the best CD from this band, and by far one of the best Christian CDs of all time. I first heard of this band when I received the 1997 "Simply Fabulous $1.99 New Music Sampler". It contained the two standout tracks from this CD ("Hands In The Air" and "Number 9"). At the time I wasn't really in to Christian rock music, but I really liked "Hands In The Air". This entire CD is wonderful, and each song has a different style. "Heaven Is Home" sounds almost like a European folk song, with an accordian and a neat style. "Number 9" talks about people living in their own little world. "Hands In The Air" is one of the best songs this band has ever done, with an English horn solo and some awesome lyrics. "Beautiful Blood" is a mellow waltz with a wonderful message. This is the CD that defines what this band is all about.

These guys became one of my favorite groups quickly. Their self titled CD here is tremendous. People have compared the Waiting like a southern PFR. I guess I would somewhat agree with that. Placing the waiting in any type of catagory is pretty difficult. This CD has such great songs of surrending to Christ. I call this Altar Call Rock because when you here these songs you realize your humaness and your finiteness and realize that God is infinite and in complete control. Songs like It is enough, My Pride and Hands in the Air will stir your soul. Graphic Christian lyrics that will hit you right between the eyes.
