5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie!
I would highly recommend this movie. It will keep you smiling from the beginning to the end. Also, has a surprising twist. Ian Somerhalder is absolutely fantastic (love his beautiful blue eyes) and Bijou Phillips is adorable (she reminds me of a young Goldie Hawn). Buy it today!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disaster
First of all let me say that I love Ian Somerhalder. Now let me say that I hated him for a short while after I saw this dreadful film. I love inventive stories, but this was trying to do way too much in a very short amount of time (plot wise). The premise is kind of neat and if it was done just the right way I think it could have worked, but it does not here. By the end...

I was very pleasantly surprised at finding this movie on Netflix and have now added it to my wish list here. I was originally drawn to the movie by searching through Ian Somerhalder's body of work and I'm glad I stumbled upon it. It was so refreshing to see him in a role without so much of the snarky humor that he's so famous for (and does a fabulous job at), and taking on something with a bit more depth.

I thought the casting was spot on for all roles, Bijou was quirky and amusing, I felt uncomfortable when she did, smiled when things went well for her and was upset when she was; she had a way of drawing me right in. The twist ending was well done, not too predictable, I only wish there was a little bit more at the end.

I will definitely want to watch this one again.

I wanted this movie because of Ian Somerhalder...I was skeptical as to whether or not it was worth watching as I do NOT like funeral's nor comedy/romance movie's really!

There were NO review's to read AT ALL. (seem's SOMEONE out of the hundred's of people that saw it at the film festivel could have thrown us a bone!)

It turns out this movie was GREAT! Not what I expected at all from the 'description' - I have watched it 3 time's now w/friend's and they all loved the movie too!!

You all know what it's supposed to be about - I'm here to tell you if you had any doubts - this is one you don't want to miss! It's mystery, sad, funny, romance it has a story line you can understand...It's AWESOME! LOVED IT!!!! SOOO GLAD I DIDEN'T PASS IT UP!

I don't normally take the time to write a movie review, but I'm making a point of it now with Wake. I rented it to see 97 minutes of Ian Somerhalder. Didn't expect much but I'd watch the man if he were hosting a foreign fishing show. Not only was I completely surprised at how much I enjoyed the movie, but I went right to Amazon and bought it same day. Now, Bijou Phillips' character is a bit annoying and you find yourself hoping she gets slapped, but essentially, this happens to her emotionally... hence the title, Wake. She is broken inside. He fixes her by being vulnerable and available and its very quirky. Ian's performance is wonderful. I'm just not saying that because I'm jaded; he is really great. Buy it. Its the kind of movie you watch when you are in a funk and it will yank you out of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story, great cast!, May 28, 2010
This review is from: Wake (DVD)
This movie came out last fall while I was visiting relatives in CA. We needed a break from chatting and looked at the movies that were playing. This one won our vote and we went to see it.

I was delighted by Bijou Phillips, who seems perfect for that role. The other characters were just as solidly cast. The story was very creative and moving. The movie was different, very entertaining and solidly FUNNY from beginning to end. Just what we ALL needed. It was also created a good discussion at dinner afterwards.

I heartily recommend WAKE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the movie...BUT, January 21, 2012
This review is from: Wake (DVD)
I have to admit - when Ian Somerhalder first came onto the scene with Lost (ok...that was the first that I'd heard of him)...I thought he was just a pretty face. In fact, I pretty much didn't hop onto the bandwagon until I saw him play Damon Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries." So...now I want to see him in other things. Enter this movie.

The premise is awful..Bijou Phillips is both "cute-as-a-button" and "eerie" and "annoying" with her portrayal of an emotionally stunned woman who just happens to frequent funerals in an attempt to "feel" again. I was willing to suspend belief UNTIL the scene with the ring. THEN...it became painful. It was painful because of how Bojou's character treated Ian's character (Tyler) throughout the entire movie. The woman is flawed. VERY flawed. You get the sense that there is something Tyler is holding back...that there is more to the death of his fiancee...and as part of the audience i don't think ANY of us believed he was a killer. To watch Karis go off the deep end. Wow.

Ian's performance was the typical nice guy. He did a great job of making you believe that the comedy of errors would wind up exonerating him. But it was STILL painful to watch...not because his performance was bad or that the movie was bad...but BECAUSE the way Karis stumbles around and fails to be honest and BELIEVES a man she's said she's in love with to be a murderer so easily...well..

The movie ends with a single scene. I wanted at least something said between these characters. It was a tender moment - bittersweet...but at the same time leaves the audience hanging. Ok...it left me hanging. That being said, I did LIKE it. I know...a bit contradictory...but ultimately it has heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it, April 20, 2011

I really really loved this movie! Suspense, romance, comedy - everything united! Honestly I had to get that movie because I am a huge Ian Somerhalder fan but having watched most of his earlier movies (like "The lost Samaritan" which - in my book - was absolute crap) I have been really surprised about this one! Even if you're not a fan of his work you should see it. Absolutely lovable characters you can sympathize with and a very nice twist/surprise at the end. I wish this movie was available in my mother tongue German too so I could torture my (non-Ian-loving) husband *lol*

By the end of it my friend and I were watching it, jaws to the floor like "What just happened?" The characters are phony and the main character is so dense and unlovable. The dialog was strange and felt awkward most of the time. The story line was very ambitious, but highly implausible. I kept thinking "Maybe if it were Tyler's sister or cousin even, but not his fiancé!" He didn't even seem sad or lost at all and I could understand this if maybe they grew apart, but after finding out the way she died, not acceptable! Overall a HUGE disappointment.

Movie was long and drawn out. I was excited that Ian Somerhalder was the actor in it but the actual storyline itself sucked and I would not recommend this movie to purchase.
