I bought this clock for my 2 1/2 year old because she gets up at odd hours and I wanted a visual clue to tell her when it was OK to get up. That part works. However, my 4-year-old son has the "Teach Me Time" clock by this same company, and it offers the same functionality and SO MUCH MORE.

The things wrong with this clock are:
-- No plug-in option, so when the batteries fade so does its usefulness.
-- The nightlight is not very bright and it turns off quickly ... this is true of the Teach Me Time clock, but when plugged in it is not an issue for whatever reason.
-- The time part is not illuminated, so while my daughter can tell it is OK to get up, she can't see what time it is. After being used to her brother's clock, this disappoints both of them.

I only bought this clock because the other one was sold out everywhere. While it does the sleep job, I was overall disappointed and would tell any prospective buyers to go for the other option if available.

What this is perfect for: Kids too young to read a clock who don't sleep long enough.
What this is NOT: A nightlight.

Our 18 month old was getting up at 5 am or earlier. And her naps were 20mins long. We bought this clock and she figured it out on day one. That doesn't mean it didn't take a few days of putting her back to bed so she knew we were serious. (The worst is when there is only a couple mins to go, but consistency is the key!) She now naps (or plays quietly in her bed) at least and hour and a half and doesn't get up until her clock is green at 6am. And now that getting up at 6 and coming into my bed no longer means she is going back to sleep, I am pushing the time forward a little every day so she gets the rest she needs.

No, it's not bright. But the green is plenty bright enough for her to see WITHOUT waking her up. (The point is to let her know she CAN get up, not to wake her up. There is an alarm for waking her if she ever needed it.)

However, the "nightlight" is perfect for sneaking into her room to check on her. It's bright enough that I can make sure she is under the covers without waking her up.

We have had this for almost a year. It's only required 2 battery changes. If you try to leave the nightlight on, you will run the batteries down pretty quick. But I repeat, it's NOT a nightlight. (And they should stop marketing it as one. That might help the reviews.)

A few older reviews mention the feet don't turn off. This is not true of this clock. (Maybe it is of the plug in teaching version or maybe it's something they changed.)

I do agree it might be nice if the clock was backlit, but since DD is too young to read the clock, that's really more for me. Once she can/wants to read a clock, she won't need a green light to tell her she can get up.

We got this clock for my son before he could understand it's purpose or what it meant when it turned green (18 months), but using it anyway and just letting him know it was quite time in the morning until it turned green seemed to work. Within two months he understood that if he woke up and the light wasn't green it meant he needed to go back to sleep or play quietly in his crib. As soon as it turned green he could yell at us that it was green and it was time to wake up.

Fast forward to this morning after his first night in his new big-boy bed. He woke up a little after 7:00am, per usual. He stayed in bed until 7:30am, playing quietly until the light turned green at 7:30am! He's been so consistent with this for the past 6 months we were pretty confident he'd play quietly until it turned green, but we were a little skeptical on if he'd actually stay in bed. The regular/consistent use has made this a super easy transition so far!

Tips:
1) The nightlight part of this is too bright. We turn on the "yellow" a minute before the green turns on. Unfortunately the yellow is required to come on first for some reason when we bought it (June 2013)
2) I wish we'd gotten the model that allows for a naptime setting too - I might just purchase this one
3) Keep the instructions handy. I'm now able to program the times and settings by the glow of the light in the dark, but it took several times of reading the instructions to figure it out.

We have the Teach Me Time clock from the same company and it is far superior to the OK to Wake clock - on this one the light (orange or green) goes out after 30 min (you can change that to up to 2 hours), but what good is it to tell a 2 year old at bedtime to "wait for the light to turn green" if they wake up and don't see any light at all? I understand that's designed to save the battery life, but I would much rather have a cord and a constant light. Plus the Teach Me Time clock has the option of turning the orange light on at a given time, leaving certain times of the day when there is no light at all - I really like having control over that so I can leave the orange/green on when I want to.

We have no issues with night sleep or early waking, but have horrible napping issues with my 18 month old. Some naps would be 40 minutes, some two hours... and he always woke up screaming. This clock helped SO much. It took a few days to get him used to it. Now, before he goes down for a nap, I tell him that if he wakes up and the clock is not green, he needs to go back to sleep. When it turns green and he's awake, he gets so excited and I mimic his enthusiasm. Then, we spend some time making the clock smile and talking about what a good job he did. This was really worth it.
