4.0 out of 5 stars The most underrated group of the 80's
The first Fater Pussycat album was good, but in the follow up the group expanded the song-writing, becasme more bluesy, and really left behind the Glam sound that they came out of.

Unfortunetly, the music busienss is as much about timing as anything. If the group came out 2 years earlier...they would have been as big as Poison, Warrant, etc...all of which they blew...

3.0 out of 5 stars From the "Whatever happened to" file.
Yes, Faster Pussycat is one of those bands that will be remember as a one hit wonder with the ballad "House of Pain" which peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 Singles chart. They failed to match the success of Slaughter, Warrant, Firehouse, White Lion, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, AC/DC and Bad English.

This is from the "Whatever happened to" file.

The first Fater Pussycat album was good, but in the follow up the group expanded the song-writing, becasme more bluesy, and really left behind the Glam sound that they came out of.

Unfortunetly, the music busienss is as much about timing as anything. If the group came out 2 years earlier...they would have been as big as Poison, Warrant, etc...all of which they blew away....

2 years later they may have been able to "re-invent" themselves as a grunge band ala Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains....

However, without thinking of the scene or the era, this is simply a good CD and worth playing all these years later.

1) Where there's a whip - A rock em sock em Rock & Roll tune. With great Riff's and sleazy lyrics.

2) Little Dove - Similar to the above with great lyrics.

3) Poison Ivy - Inteneded to be the hit single. An ok tune, but a little too pop for my tastes.

4) House of Pain - a Rare power ballad that actually carried emotion

5) Gonna Walk - Groovy blues/rock track

6) Pulling weeds - Another stand out track that is heavy but catchy

7) Slip of the Tongue - With a slip of the tongue I'm in Deep $h!t...need say no more

the next few tracks are ok, but not standoutish until...

Arizona Indian Doll - a groovy track that could have been a Cult song

Please Dear - another truly moving sounding balad about a break-up or death of a love one...take your pick...

I've known punk rockers, hippies, and Metal heads who hated glam that fell in love with this record once they got over the "Glam" perception of the band.....Give it a try and keep an open mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars No sophmore slump here..., March 5, 2000
This review is from: Wake Me When It's Over (Audio CD)
These guys carried on the tradition of greatness from their first album onto this second one. I liked these guys better than Poison believe it or not. The third cd "Whipped" is just as good, too bad it was the end. I love this band. Ok, onto the review... This album is slighty more polished than the debut but miles away from the slick stuff that you always see. This is the most polished one but still has the raw street-level sound. "Poison Ivy" sounds just like a song from album 1 and "House of Pain" is a definitive ballad that you can't ignore, it's almost like an anti-ballad, focusing on real life rather than false love! "Where there's a whip" opens this album with a bang! What's the idea of an import-only hits collection that costs big bucks on this page, somebody's gotta put a 10 buck hits cd out in the US, even a cheap record company package, Sheesh, these guys deserve it! Where's the live cd? If I was a record company exec. my first job would be to buy the rights to their music so I could do these guys justice with a slamming hits collection complete with all the great tracks, some new stuff and some bonus b-sides and live tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another AWESOME album from Faster Pussycat..., May 22, 1999
This review is from: Wake Me When It's Over (Audio CD)
I love this album. It's deeper than the self-titled debut (both are great). Like many other people, I can relate to "House of Paine". In fact, I have that song as my out-going message on my answering machine. I highly recomend this album and this band. Check out Gustave "Taime" Downe's new band "The Newlydeads"

5.0 out of 5 stars An 80's Band to Remember...Wish you were STILL here!, April 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Wake Me When It's Over (Audio CD)
Faster Pussycat was and still is an AWESOME rock group! They did something that not too many 80's "big hair" bands were able to accomplish. Their song, House of Pain, gives me chills every time I hear it...it's a song with a meaning...possibly something alot of people can relate to...I know I can. They may have been hardcore rock, but Faster Pussycat got down on a "real" level when they wrote this song. It makes the whole CD...I mean, the other songs are terrific too, but House of Pain gives a new insight into the world of metal bands...they had and do still have problems in their lives just like the rest of us...they're not all just guys (or girls) who don't give a crap about their music or their fans. I have TOTAL respect for this band for just singing this one song, regardless of how sleazy some of the other songs may be...this band ROCKS! I wish they were still together makin' music!

I just don't understand why this band never acheived the success of Poison or Warrant or any of their hair band contemporaries. They had the hair, they had the leather and the scream, but why didn't they go far? I just dunno. Well, successfull or not successful, this is one of my all-time favorite albums. The songs are very well written, the guitars and every other instrument is well done. One thing I don't understand is the singer Taime Downe's fake twang. He's an L.A. guy, why does he fake a twang? But even with the weird rwang, this is one of my favorite albums ever. This is an underrated hair band classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and Original Great Music, December 28, 2003

I'd really have to disagree with the folks that say Faster Pussycat is a Aerosmith rip off. In fact, they are very different. And the reviewer that said Taime Down's vocal style is like Steven Tyler's is completely eroneous. (I guess that reviewer thinks every woman on earth is like his mom, because she is the first woman he ever met) One of the many things that drew me to the band was the unique style of music and vocals. When the 80's was churning out bubble gum, FP was dishing out sleaze. They made music about sex and a good time. Perhaps this is why their music is still good today. Some things never get old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated hair metal, January 3, 2002
This review is from: Wake Me When It's Over (Audio CD)
Faster Pussycat broke a little late on the scene, after the long hair and tattoo bands all looked and sounded too much like each other(Kix, White Lion, Saigon Kick, Dangerous Toys). Maybe that's why they've been forgotten while Poison, Skid Row and Cinderella can at least get some time for nostalgia while few people remember Pussycat. Even at the height of their career, their best material rarely found the airwaves. That's a shame, because they produced some music that rocked just as hard but was much smarter and more fun than the rest. Another reviewer called House of Pain an anti-ballad. I'd add that Wake Me When It's Over is like an anti-pop album, because the best material is located deeper in the disk. Pulling Weeds is a balls-out romp, and House of Pain is a more sincere ballad than most bands of this kind could write. Poison Ivy was the catchy hook, but keep playing, or you'll miss the best stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars TEARS with a kick, May 29, 2001
This review is from: Wake Me When It's Over (Audio CD)
I originally bought this when it first came out. House of pain seems to apply to most of us children of the baby boomers! It's big hair glam all the way, but pay attention to the lyrics on Please Dear. For a bunch of tough guys they hit some pretty emotional topics. More than power ballads designed to sell! I still can't listen to House Of Pain or Please Dear without tearing up! However Poison Ivy is an upbeat happy song! Good for a chuckle! Also Arizona Indian Doll boasts a catchy native american beat..makes for great listening! If you are an 80's collector this is a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars second album that blows the rock world away!, January 28, 2000
This review is from: Wake Me When It's Over (Audio CD)
well "house of pain " is the stuff as u may know it finds then using singer taime downes lyrics and making their first ballad ever. It will leave you feeling really good to know your not alone. however the first song "where theres a whip theres a way" will make you sweat ! and "poison Ivy is just pure fun. its more commewrcial than their first album but this album finds more of the band. they were never a cookie cutter band like the late rotten appples of the eighties. there next album "whipped" shows them doing something like this one but with less fun. sooooo add this to your collection now! will this band reunite like the others? hope sooooo! 1
