3.0 out of 5 stars Like many others, I saw them live...
I first heard of 3 when I saw them open for Coheed, and they totally blew Coheed out of the water. These guys are insane live and put on one of the best shows out there. They are all very talented musicians and Joey Eppard is an inspiration to any guitar player who chooses to play with his fingers and not a pick.

As for this cd, it's alright. It was a few...

When I was shopping around the other day, I came across 3 by accident, as I was looking for some other title with a T..ANYWAY, I saw it was on Metal Blade records, famous for having some great Death Metal acts, in fact thats what I thought 3 was going to be, but before I bought, I thought I come home and check them out first. Let me tell you I was very suprised to see that a Progressive Rock act got signed by Metal Blade, second, I was surpried that it was very good. I thought Metal Blade might be selling out, kinda like RoadRunner Records did replacing all their Death Metal Bands, with Nu and Pop Metal bands..Good thing I was wrong as 3 is a very unique band. If you are looking for Metal, you found the wrong band, but if you are looking for some good Progressive Rock, then you came to the right place. Metal Heads might even like this since it is so out of the ordinary and shows that rock and roll doesnt have to be commerical to be great (like horrible bands such as My Chemical Romance and Korn) Check this out if you are looking for something different. I only previewed part of the album, and most of it so far is 4 star material..ENJOY

As for this cd, it's alright. It was a few months after I saw 3 that I finally found this guy, and I was a bit disappointed with it. I find the vocals to be a bit whiny and the music just doesn't have as much energy as it does live. The second track (where's max) is severly lacking in that there isn't some crazy guy screaming "ah" and "oh" to the rythm of the band (as there was live). Other tracks start out nice and heavy and somehow float into free form jazz somewhere along the line. The only track that gets close to the supreme ownage of 3 live is the hidden track at the end of "amazedisgrace".

I would most likely see 3 live again, but I'm not too sure about their studio work. This is an overall good effort, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing., November 27, 2004
This review is from: Wake Pig (Audio CD)
This band, from the moment they came about, has had me captivated by its total ingenuity. The lyrics, the music, the vocals, is all completely amazing, there is just no other way to put it. If I could, I would rate this a 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh air, March 17, 2006
This review is from: Wake Pig (Audio CD)
Ok, so I am a little bias. I used to play with Gartdrumm and Jumpin' Joe Stote back in College (Gartmann was 15). To see these guys work so hard over the past 15+ years to get where they are today is simply awesome. This Album shows that 3 has reached their essence. Joey's songcraft is clever and is a fresh breath of air, considering all the crap that is put out today. The guitar work is clean and fast. I love how the bass is intertwined throughout each song. Gartmann and Stote just plain rock. Prog Rock? Ok I guess you can put them in that category. I would call it Intelligent Rock. Only wish would be me blending in a few Gilmour like leads over their highly skilled and technically fast riffs. :) Good luck guys and stop by ATL soon so we can hang.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, August 14, 2005
This review is from: Wake Pig (Audio CD)
I've seen this band live, and afterward I was hooked! this is a fantastic band, that sadly very few people have caught on to. This si probably the best album I've ever had the pleasure to listen to, the singing is melodic and highly impressive, while the guitar is technical and heavy. This album is perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, January 30, 2005

I heard about this group from a friend. They're not mainstream, but they are amazing. The singer's voice reminds me of a combination of Coheed and Cambria with My Chemical Romance. If you need to hear a sample of the songs before you buy, they have it at the website Pure Volume. They are awesome get the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern progressive., November 12, 2006
This review is from: Wake Pig (Audio CD)
First off, I didn't discover this band right away or even hear anything about them until recently. I didn't see them in concert or even know what they sounded like until people were discussing them on an internet forum. They made the band sound pretty interesting so I thought I would check them out. I'm glad I did. To me the band sounds like a mix of Queen and Rush. Maybe even some Styx. Now im not partial to Queen or Rush, I really don't like either of them. Styx has a few okay songs but I'm not a huge fan or anything. It really doesn't even make sence for me to like this band but something about them kept me listening. It's actually a really well put together modern progressive style rock. Some of the key tracks are "Alien Angel", "Wake Pig", "Trust", and "Queen". Here's the track ratings...

1. Alien Angel - 10/10
2. Where's Max - 8.5/10
3. Dregs - 9/10
4. Wake Pig - 10/10
5. Bramfatura - 10/10
6. Trust - 10/10
7. Dogs of War - 8.5/10
8. Soul to Sell - 8/10
9. Queen - 10/10
10. Monster - 9/10
11. Amazedisgrace - 10/10

Overall: 94% A-

I'm glad I found this too because I've never even really heard of the band. I feel lucky that it was at my local used cd store when I went searching otherwise I would of had to buy it online. Anyway, its an excellent release in a time when much of modern rock is all about copying sounds like Nickelback rather than doing it your own way.
