Cool Hand Luke combines unique lyrical imagery and cool harmonics to produce a unique album, especially for the fairly stagnant Christian Rock genre. They have a strong Christian message throughout the 10 song album without beating you over the head with it or being overly preachy. Most of the songs are fairly mellow, and they are all long, it's not radio friendly, but it is listener friendly. I would reccomend it to anybody who like Pedro the Lion, Unwed Sailor, Saves the Day, Dashboard Confessional, the Juliana Theory, or even Milemarker. Another interesting feature of Cool Hand Luke is that when they play live, they keep their backs to the audience. This is probably a result of the anti-materialist philosophy expressed in their lyrics. You won't regret buying this album.

this cd is the best thing i've heard from cool hand luke, possibly any band. mark writes songs that praise Jesus and minister to the listener in a deep way. musically they are at their best. lyrically they are amazing. i strongly suggest this cd for fans of good indie rock and anyone who wants a listening experience that will elevate them closer to God.

well, I've liked this band from the beginning, from there first CD and I even saw them of my local area in Lakeland, FL. I like them alot, this CD is different from the rest because it involves Cello,violin, and piano alot more than their other two CD's. If you like the band Mineral I think you will like them alot.

Cool Hand Luke is one of the best bands I've ever come across. This CD is so spiritually uplifting and amazing. The lyrics are full of joy and love, and the music is so peaceful and emotional. Mark's vocals are the best thing about this band though! Mark is the vocalist/drummer and you don't see that very often in music. Their earlier stuff is hard emocore/screamo, and I suggest buying those CDs too (buy them on coolhandlukeonline.com). Awesome band! Awesome CD!

Wow. Wow. Wow. I had heard a lot about this band before I bought it and when I did the guy checking me out said 'This is the best CD you will ever own." I didn't know their lyrics were soo spiritual. I knew they were Christian but a lot of Christian music is vaguely about Jesus but "Wake up, o sleeper." is 100% about Jesus. Their lyrics are amazing. The songs vary from deep worship melodies to powerful more personal life related lyrics. This album just blew me away.

I went to CHL's release show for Wake Up, O Sleeper last night, and it was great. The new material (which we've been getting a taste of for awhile now in the past few shows) sounds really great on the album. The recording is a ton cleaner than on So Far... and I Fought Against Myself, and Mark's voice sounds great. Fans of their older stuff will like this one, too. Don't worry that they're on a label now, they're still the same people. But do yourself a favor and get this album, and check them out live in your area.

After I saw them at Ichthus music festival last year I was instantly sold out to Cool Hand Luke's music. I saw an intensity like no other in Contemporary Christian music and a sincerity that I had not seen out of musicians in a long time. Their concerts are hard to describe because they aren't concerts that you can bob your head to but you just stand there and you become amazed by God's presence at the concert. The cd is the same way. "Wake up o sleeper" is a very mellow cd and one of my favorites. I love hardcore music but then I have fallen in love with Cool Hand Luke because of Mark's voice. I just love how Mark wears his emotions on his sleeve and I don't think the music being played is anything spectacular but the band knows it is for the glory of God. Their lyrics are very blatant Christian and I have no problem with that because that just shows that the members of Cool Hand Luke aren't afraid to show their faith. From the get go of "Heroes will be Heroes" which I believe is talking about Peter till the last song on the cd Cool Hand Luke is intense in their own way and beautiful at the same time. Their songs have moved me to tears and when you buy this cd you will know why tears flow from my eyes whenever I listen to this cd. This band is very hard to categorize but I would classify them in the same category that Coldplay is classified as. Go support these guys because they are spectacular and true God-fearing men. While Awake O Sleeper is not my favorite of Cool Hand Luke's albums, it still deserves kudos. The songs build into powerful crescendos. The use of this band's dynamics is priceless in and of itself. I love the melodies and harmonies of the lead singer, and I am also attracted to the flowing and weaving bass lines that drive the music. This album is a must have if you are into bands that can rock out while still retaining a strong sense of musicality and musical maturity.

I bought this cd when it first came out, and I rediscovered it this week. I saw them in concert during their tour for the album. They are amazing, and none of their other discs compare to this one. Love love love it.

Cool Hand Luke really hit it big with me on this album. Beautiful vocals, lyrics and music in a style all their own to back it up with is what you'll find when you listen to Cool Hand Luke. Now let this be a warning to some, the reviewer below me didn't like this album so I'm assuming he was looking for something heavier....CHL IS VERY MELLOW MUSIC. If you want heavy with good lyrics, move along to Dizmas or The Myriad.
