Book Description

December 22, 1997
Before Too Much Coffee Man... Before the Eisner award... Before the Converse shoe commercial...

Mojo Press is proud to present Wake Up & Smell The Cartoons: The Early Work of Shannon Wheeler. This comprehensive collection features Wheeler's early cult cartoons from his Berkeley college days at The Daily Californian to his relocation to Austin in the late 80's and his creation of the ultimate caffeinated pop icon Too Much Coffee Man.

Wake Up & Smell The Cartoons collects some Wheeler's most experimental and interesting strips from the very beginnings of his cartooning career. With over 100 pages of some of the funniest cartoons ever produced, Wake Up & Smell The Cartoons is a must for any fan of coffee in general and alternative comics in particular.

"To the people who've said they like my early stuff better can now be proven to be the fools we suspected them to be," commented Wheeler when asked about the upcoming collection.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"These cartoons are indeed so weird that they border on being deranged. Since they are also amusing and unorthodox, they can be an important part of this nutritious breakfast." -- Sam Hurt, creator of Eyebeam

"Wheeler's cartooning style is simple and effective; his writing is full of hard truths, observed too closely for comfort. This is seriously funny stuff." -- Lewis Shiner, World Fantasy Award winner

This review is from: Wake Up and Smell the Cartoons of Shannon Wheeler (Paperback)
If you like witty, sarcastic, smart humor, you will love Shannon Wheeler. This book is so funny-that I loaned it to my friends and they loved it. Wheeler's artistic work exudes a kind of neurotic energy that we've all experienced and relate to,a definite must buy.
