5.0 out of 5 stars Full of fantastic tips for "greening" your daily routines
This book gives you fun and easy ways to make your everyday chores more environmentally friendly, from choosing what to wear in the morning to what to do with kitty's doo doo. It's an easy, quick read, and I guarantee it'll give you some ideas you haven't thought of before. Even the smallest things can make a difference. One thing I'd like to see added in future books,...

1.0 out of 5 stars a waste of paper
This book is too concerned with being humorous than providing information. There was hardly any tips in it that I didn't already know. I would not recommend this to anyone who is serious about going green.

One thing I'd like to see added in future books, when talking about coffee... it's important to get away from using coffee makers with hot plates. They waste a lot of energy. Purchase a coffee maker with a thermos for a pot. It will keep the coffee hot for hours, without sucking precious electrons out of the ground.

4.0 out of 5 stars not easy being green, December 7, 2007

Is it possible for a guide to living green to go down easy? Over the course of it's day-to-night structure, this compact, printed on recycled paper with soy ink guide, reveals how just about every facet of modern life is founded upon wasteful, unsustainable, greenhouse gas-creating models. While infused with a realistic nod to the fact that we can't abide by all its suggestions, the information initially comes as a shock. But the suggestions seep in -- drive as little as possible, buy local and organic, use CFL light bulbs, neither paper nor plastic, bring your own bag, etc. This is information that we all need to have and however it gets out there is great. But who's going to send something similarly persuasive to global corporate heads?

5.0 out of 5 stars A real book for real people, November 29, 2007

I've never written one of these before, but when I was asked to review this book, I couldn't resist. It's hard to live green in the world today, but I feel every little bit counts. The thing I love about this book (beyond being easy and fast to read) is that it doesn't make you feel like a loser. It gives the straight-up this-is-what-is-killing-our-planet, and also the don't-lose-sleep-over-this-stuff. I know plastic coffee mugs aren't the best thing for the earth, BUT, I'd rather take a travel mug to the drive-thru coffee shops than throw away 5 paper/plastic cups a week. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make a difference, even if they just start out with baby steps.

A good place to look to maximize your earth friendly practices, although lots of tips are old hat for those who are usually interested in these things. Some good definitions though and the links to appropriate earth-friendlier businesses are appreciated. Worth supporting these clever and helpful folks and you'll probably learn a few things, too.

It's very true; it's hard to get good advice on how to help save the world without purists and pompous tree-huggers (no offense to the non-pompous kind :) ) talking to you like you're just another lazy 'part of the problem'. Grist gets right down to the facts, and covers alot of today's (and tomorrow's) issues and lifestyles, with a comedic twist, and without all the namecalling. That way, YOU can keep an open mind and explore all of the different earth-saving options that are available to you. 'Practical', 'funny', and 'informative' are three words I would use to describe this book. I am very pleased with it.

I LOVE IT!!!
This book is just like the website. Simple clean advice to help make the world a better place. Plus some cheesy jokes to make it fun. GRIST ROCKS!
Anyone can read and understand this book. Anyone can change their life for the better. It kinda makes you wonder how we got is wrong so many years ago. Great gift as well.

Being ecologically responsible can be fun! The authors certainly had a ball writing this book -- full of laughs on what is a very serious subject. Well worth a read.

It is just like its' subtitle---non-pompous, non-preachy guide to greening your day!!
Easy to read and very practical ideas. I gave all my friends a copy of this book, with some green gifts, such as, socks with bamboo threads and hemp purses.

Everyone should own a copy of this book and also give it as a gift. It is later than we think for our endangered planet. It suggests many things we can do, great and small to do our share and help before it is too late; our children, grandchildren and generations to come will thank us someday. This book is a must for everyone.

Such an enjoyable read. Editors Davis and Wroth understand that if readers were already totally green there would be no need for "Wake Up and Smell the Planet". So, no guilt trips just lots of information and good suggestions for the average person.
