Editorial Reviews

2011 album from August 'Kid Creole' Darnell and Co., their first new studio album in 10 years. Since his days in Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, Darnell has seamlessly blended together pop, R&B, Salsa, Funk, Rock and practically every other genre of music, creating the truly unique Kid Creole sound.

The cd starts out awesomely. August Darnell's vocals are as strong as ever. And the first half is great. Then I realized there's hardly any female vocals & no Coconut harmonizing or solos. That part is a big let down. Some of the play & fun is missing. But if you let that go by, it is a realy great album. The male vocals, the female vocals that are there, the lyrics, & the songs themselves are great. Generally a really great album, but keep in mind you won't be hearing much of the Coconuts. And it is still so odd that Kid Creole and the Coconuts never got the exposure & recognition that they definitely deserves like performancers such as Gloria Estefan received over & over again.

don't have time for details...been a Kid fan since 80 or so.. I've seen him live twice and both show were a total party... still making interesting melodies with cool lyrics and his own unique brand of brainy and zany cosmopolitan funky fun. get it , you won't be disappointed.

man August Darnell is scary bad man. what a inspiration to so much. i really have always identified with his hybrid approach and visual lyrical word play and still do. i really dug this album and loved his tribute to his Brother Stoney, who was a bad cat musically. some folks just don't know how wicked a ear for detail and music that man had. Corey Daye one of the baddest Female singers ever. something else. miss the coconuts here as well. however the songs and grooves compliment nicely. Kid Creole never lost a thing. if Beyonce, ALicia Keys, RHianna or whomever is happening or considered happening today reached out to him musically then they would be ten times even better. imagine if Beyonce had this Man's pen and creative wit. i mention that because this album and talents are proof he still is bringing it.
