5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, March 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Waking Beauty (Hardcover)
My little princess keeps all of her princess books in one pile in her room so we can read them over and over and over ... Needless to say, I quickly tired of the traditional tales. This book, however, is delightful! My daughter and I laughed and laughed ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Original and hilarious!, June 5, 2008
This review is from: Waking Beauty (Hardcover)
Leah Wilcox' rhyming, offbeat send up of the Sleeping Beauty story is hilarious. My children and I all love it - even my boy, who has endured so many princess stories for his sister's sake that he hates them on principle, thinks this book is a riot. But the humor is sweet, not cynical, and leaves them both rolling. They also love Lydia Monks' illustrations, and study them intently searching for the "real" textures and the "drawn" ones. I love everything about this book! Also look at their other collaboration, Falling for Rapunzel.

I love this book! My daughter still laughs at the princes failed attempts to wake up this sleepy princess. And I have to admit, I laugh a little too. It's a witty take on a old classic. I recommend it to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dreamy Prince Meets His Match, February 16, 2008

The beautiful girl has been asleep for years and the fairies are desperate to find a prince to help the damsel in distress. An unsuspecting dragon seeking prince will do perfectly... too bad he doesn't like girls! The boy's attempts to wake the sleeping girl without a kiss are delightful. Boys and girls will adore this tale. This silly book is a perfect read aloud.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK!!, January 11, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have trouble finding this book in local bookstores, so I periodically order via Amazon. Both of her books are my absolute favorite to give as a present to little girls. It has adorable illustration and the story is one that children AND adults find hilarious. Every girl I've ever given this to has a parent who later told me it's their daughter's favorite book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Adorable!, December 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My daughter received the author and illustrator's other book, Falling for Rapunzel, as a gift, and since we were so pleased and delighted by that story, I decided to order this one for her as a Christmas gift. In my opinion, this book is even better than the Rapunzel one! The funny story, clever illustrations, and pleasing cadence of the rhyme make it fun for even the youngest readers (mine are 3 and 1.5) to listen to. These books aren't just for girls, either; my three year-old son loves both of them and regularly asks to hear them. Excellent book on all counts!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book, December 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Got this book for my three-year-old granddaughter, and she loves it; she always asks for it to be read to her. She also liked "Falling For Rapunzel," which is similar in that it gives a well-known story a funny and unexpected twist.

My daughter and I love this book. It's a funny take on a classic story with colorful illustrations. Good for early readers or as a "read to me" story.
