SECOND TIME'S A CHARMER,
By GREGORY B. TROTTER (Port Charlotte, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waking the Fury (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of ANNIHILATOR since 1989, when they released ALICE IN HELL. Now every album since has had a change of pace and a line up change, but I was happy to see that Joe was back singing with ANNIHILATOR. He did an excellent job on the CARNIVAL DIABLOS album, and after listening to this one, I was impressed.KEEP THRASHIN'

Heaviest Annihilator to Date,
This review is from: Waking the Fury (Audio CD)
I don't think Waking the Fury is better than Alice in Hell, mainly because of how different the two cds are. But Waking the Fury is incredibly fast and powerful and easily owns most modern metal releases from the last couple years.
The distortion is heavier and the tempo is definitely accelerated. Joe's voice is darker and the lyrics are as well. Songs like Ultra Motion and Cold Blooded rip through the airwaves like a razor blade, with lightning fast solos and wicked riffs while other songs such as Prime Time Killing and Fire Power work off slower riffs. No acoustic songs on this album, they've all been purged. Nothing to Me has an AC/DC feel like Shallow Grave, but it's way heavier. My Precious Lunatic Asylum is also exceptionally cool for those that need to know. If you like heavy metal, you should like this album, as it embodies everything metal should be in the new millenium. Buy it.

It's all a little fuzzy until it hits searingly fast.,
This review is from: Waking the Fury (Audio CD)
Jeff Water and the band have completed this album with the same line-up as Carnival Diablos. This is a first for the band and their many linup changes! It took me forever to find out about the album release due to the band not scoring a major record deal like last time. So no major advertising was done for the record mind the bands web site and word of mouth/magazine, etc. (ANNIHILATORMETAL)
The record has "incredibly"...there's that word again....fast clean picking from the axman Jeff, and the tracks are all incredibly....uhhh...good Annihilator classic metal, but the fuzz guitar has a little annoyance to it til' you become oblivious to the new sound. Don't get me wrong, if you are an ANNIHILATOR fan....ya need to atleast let it pound on your brain for a once over! It is DEF...definetly a good addition to Annihilator's arsenal! I thought hopefully they would have the same sound as before since Carnival Diablos was heavy, but "HEY", every band makes and takes changes now and then! I am sure that you will develop your own opinion, but if you know past albums you should find this album to your tastes! MMMMMMmmmmmm.....M E T A L! EXCELLENT!
