Amie Siegel-creative genius,
By Eric Kolkey (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Waking Life (Paperback)
This book of poems is wonderful in every way. When was the last time you read someone with real talent? Well, look no further. Amie Siegel is the real thing. The use of words, the connections she makes-this is a fresh approach. Her work is challenging, thought provoking, and moving. If you get a chance to see her films, do so! Amie is a creative genius!!-Eric Kolkey

A whole new way of talking,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Waking Life (Paperback)
One of the most remarkable books of verse in a long while; out of nowhere this poet appears and challenges conventions of meaning and narration. She works with large phrases, and marshalls them with the austere disjunctions of Language Poetry -- but all the while an intense discourse is going on, not trivialized by glib transfer of emotions or by narrative frames. Instead, the work seems to renew, refresh. Imagine abstract language that has the impact of imagery and you get some of the flavor of this book. Every poem in the collection speaks into human space -- but never with condescension or phony lyricsim. Carefully, sentence by sentence, exploring all sorts of pause and interruption, Siegel builds up an intricate and unforgettable experience-in-hearing.
