Book Description

When 22-year-old Maya Burke digs up an old journal written by her long-lost father, what she finds is a plan for a spiritual journey—created specifically for her. As she explores its teachings, she is catapulted onto a mind-bending, cross-country adventure on the trail of his legacy, and swept up into a world of psychic visions, energy vortexes, synchronicities, government spying programs, and a spiritual underground that has revived an ancient meditation practice that can literally change the world. Waking Maya is a thrilling, wisdom-packed quest to understand the deepest principles of our reality.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The book reads smoothly and its lessons come across with a sense of personal discovery, creating an intimate experience for the reader. It is what I like to call a 'trigger' book. Reading it triggers knowledge you hold within yourself, it resonates with the truths buried deep inside, and awakens parts of you by allowing you to remember that you already knew all of this. If I could put one book in the hands of everyone today, this would be the book." --BookReview.com

"A fascinating premise, and the author really knows his subject." --St. Martin's Press

"A groundbreaking experiment in consciousness-oriented fiction. And a serious page-turner. Imagine 1984 meets The Celestine Prophecy and add the edgy interior monologue of an angsty twentysomething on a mystical quest, and you get Maya. What happens when she wakes up? The whole world does, too." --Adam Elenbaas, author of Fishers of Men: The Gospel of an Ayahuasca Vision Quest

"Goldie's work is on the leading edge of our human growth into new realms of understanding." --Robert F. Butts, co-author of Seth Speaks

"A visonary pageturner." --The Iowa Source

"Goldie's synthesis of several evocative theories enlightens right up to the riveting conclusion. I know of no other novel that tackles existential issues with such creativity, optimism, and joy." --Judith Landau, M.D., Sr. Fulbright Scholar

From the Inside Flap

When Maya Burke starts digging a grave in her backyard to bury her dead cat, her shovel clinks on something beneath the ground. It's a metal box -- with an old journal in it. Its writer, she discovers, is her father, who vanished mysteriously when Maya was an infant. As she reads through the brittle pages, his story is revealed -- as is hers -- but there's far more to this treasure than meets the eye. The journal presents a spiritual journey he has developed specifically for her. As Maya delves into its wisdom and teachings, her life begins to change in remarkable ways ...

Across a rapidly changing physical and psychological landscape, Maya's journey propels her from an off-the-grid community in the remote mountains to an ultra-secret spying program in Washington D.C., to a shattering revelation at one of the Earth's power vortexes of native tradition. Along the way, Maya unravels the secrets of her past and encounters the awesome power of a global change in the making.

Waking Maya is a probing examination into the question of how and why the events of our lives occur as they do. Journey with Maya on a thrilling, wisdom-packed quest to understand the deepest principles of our reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening and entertaining June 15, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Mystery, adventure, espionage, romance…what’s not to like? Goldie takes you on an unforgettable journey not only across the country and back but inside your mind to dark and bright places, to the spiritual and the down-to-earth. The book starts in a young woman’s backyard and ventures into love relationships, dysfunctional families, spiritual journeys, good and evil, and explores the meaning of life.

The author’s thoughtful attention to details made the characters feel like people I’ve met and transported me to places I’ve never been. It’s billed as visionary fiction. I’m not sure what that means but I do know I would come back for more if it’s packaged in a captivating book like this. I am ready for the sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo! August 13, 2014
Format:Paperback
Bravo to Warren Goldie for producing such a comprehensive, well informed swashbuckling account of human capacity and potential! Reading Waking Maya I felt that Goldie has advanced the caliber of the genre - a feat I very much appreciate! If indeed Napoleon Hill's quote "What the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve" is accurate, it is through explorations like Waking Maya that we evolve the human race. Thank you Warren for a great vision of possibilities!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read! May 6, 2014
Format:Paperback
A good read for anyone on a spiritual journey! Waking Maya explores many parts of spirituality and portrays a vivid picture of Maya's life, that I can easily see as becoming a great motion picture. The story begins quickly and it took me a few chapters to get into it, but by the time I was about two-thirds through the book, it was hard to put down. Now it has been over a month since I finished this book and some of the concepts continue to stick with me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very thought provoking! August 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book. Initially I wasn't so sure but once it got started it was difficult to put down. It certainly brought a new perspective to many things and events. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a book that gives you something to think about. I don't want to give away the ending so I'll just say I wish it would have continued a little farther than it did. It would have been interesting to know more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metaphysical Masterpiece August 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am just now finishing up this book on Kindle and I'm going to order a paperback copy so I can mark it up and flag parts. IT IS EXCELLENT. I can highly recommend it - a wonderful read full of insights, adventure and metaphysical truths. I am loving it. Thank you, Warren, for writing it. ...Was it 'downloaded'? i.e., automatically written? did you have help from non-physical? Just curious. It is fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful journey for the reader! July 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Anyone on a spiritual journey will find something to connect with in Waking Maya. Our personal journeys may not be as dramatic or exciting, but the seeker will see themselves in Maya and be able to relate. I only wish that I could have made this reading experience last longer, but after a certain point it was impossible to put down. Look forward to reading more from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read! April 27, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A really cool book. A friend recommended it who likes her books a little too on the "new agey" side - so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It introduced me to ideas that could be considered mystical or even sci fi, but it was also down to earth and plausible. I got caught up in the suspense and intrigue, right up to the end. What a fun read.
