Product Description

Bicycle baskets are the definition of functionality. By simply clamping a bicycle basket to your handlebar or rear rack, you can easily carry more stuff to and from wherever you may be pedaling. The versatile Wald 582 rear basket is no exception, with a large basket area that makes it easy to carry one or two bags of groceries, picnic items, or other essentials while riding.

The Wald rear bicycle basket folds compactly for easy storage.
The 582 mounts to the side of a rear bicycle rack, so it won't get in your way as you pedal. Then, once you arrive at your destination, the base of the basket pivots up and the side walls collapse, making the basket easy to carry and store.

Bike baskets also offer a number of secondary benefits. They help prevent riders from carrying items in their hands, keeping their focus where it belongs. They also help balance the excess weight appropriately, so you won't feel off kilter each time you round a corner. They can even impact your wallet by saving you money on gas when running errands. And, of course, they can contribute to your physical and mental well being, as bike riding is terrific exercise and helps clear the mind.

Available in plated, black, and white finishes, the Wald 582 measures 12.75 by 8.5 by 7.25 inches (W x H x D) when open and 1 inch thick while folded.

Product Description

The Wald 582 sets the standard for ingenuity when it comes to rear baskets. Mounting to the side of many rear racks, this nimble basket is the perfect size for packing 1-2 bags of groceries while balancing your load. When not in use, the base of the basket pivots up allowing the side walls to collapse. A simple clamp at the top keeps the basket out of your way when not in use.

It also collapses so that you can still lock the bike up as normal.

You have to bend little metal pieces which are difficult to reach because of the bike wheel.

If I needed another one for the other side, I definitely would purchase this again.

Assembly took about 15 minutes, all I need was a flat-head screwdriver and a wrench to hold the nut. The top mounting clips fastened tightly and don't allow the basket to move from side to side. The only small problem is that I couldn't use the clip for the bottom of the basket, which is meant to keep it from bouncing up and down. The reason is because none of the wires lined up properly with the vertical bar on the side of the bike rack. I got around this easily with a zip tie so it's no big deal. If I needed another one for the other side, I definitely would purchase this again.

These baskets work great. I really like having them. I had them installed by my local bike shop on my old bike which was later stolen.

Well, when I got my new bike, I decided to try to install them myself. I thought it'd be nice to know how. What a disaster. You have to bend little metal pieces which are difficult to reach because of the bike wheel. And the metal pieces don't fit right over my rack. And when they bend wrong, which inevitably they will, you have to take it off and unbend the metal that bent wrong and then start over.

The one thing that my local bike shop told me was that you should zip tie the basket to the rack first before trying to use the hardware. If that helps anyone out there, I thought I'd pass it along.

But in my honest opinion, these are great baskets, just have your local bike shop install them.

I put this on a motorized bike. There is no noticeable vibration noise. The basket stows away in the locked position nicely. It has not come loose yet.

I use these on a mountain bike to commute to work and they have met all of my expectations. My laptop bag is too wide to fit but I turn it on its side and use a bungie strap to keep it secure. My husband installed them and I warned him it may be difficult based on other reviews but he did it quickly without any complaits. It seemed quite simple.

It took me a while to finally decide on what kind of basket I wanted and I am really glad I went with this one. I ride my bike to an el station in Chicago everyday and needed something that I could throw my extra bag that holds my book, lunch, etc. This is the perfect fit for that and can also hold more if I stop by a store on the way home. It also collapses so that you can still lock the bike up as normal. I am happy to no longer have to have a bag hanging from my handle bars getting stuck in my spokes and ripping open followed by the frantic chase down of my items that are thrown all over the street while I narrowly miss cars and attacks from the neighborhood packs of wild rabid hyenas. Well, maybe sans the hyenas but you get the picture.
