Product Description

A FATEFUL DECISION

When U. S. Army intelligence specialist Greg Barnes volunteers to serve with a small detachment at Alpenberg Mountain, West Germany, he has no idea the decision will profoundly influence the rest of his life. Living off-site in the quaint village of Waldental with the colorful men of the detachment, he adapts quickly and is quite content to wait out his enlistment. He is, that is, until one evening when he is introduced to Barbra von Kronstadt, a beautiful member of the German aristocracy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Waldental Gasthaus, May 22, 2009
By Alice E. Kirk (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The author really captures the vivid personalities of the servicemen and the denizens in this part Europe during the tenuous era of the Cold War.
One can truly sense the intensity of each and every relationship as one feels the highs and the lows of the emotions that take everyone from the fun of the Fasching festivals to the reality of the duties at hand.
I felt as though I was right there in an idyllic background witnessing, Greg, the main character's diverse complex personal and professional situations. A great read. Quinn O'Hara

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reading, January 2, 2009
By A. Engelbrecht (Spokane, WA) - See all my reviews

Excellent novel that captures the feeling and emotion of this special era in time. Great interpersonal exchanges, along with excellent character development. I felt as if I actually "knew" all of the characters. In addition to being an excellent story with a great ending,I felt that I gained an understanding of military life during the Cold War in Europe.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Waldental Gasthaus, December 8, 2008
By Richard J. Jameson (placentia, ca USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I just finished reading this book and thought it was great. Hope it does well. If they make a movie I pick Brad Pitt to play Greg. The rest I'll have to think about. Listening to these GI's conversations and their day to day activities, I felt I was a guest in the Waldental Gasthaus and sharing their experience.
