Ever watch Robert Redford in The Great Waldo Pepper? The screenwriter was a friend of Waldo Waterman's and used his stories as the basis for the movie. It's a great read. Jack Carpenter transferred Waldo's stories into print seamlessly, and Waldo is a masterful story teller, slipping in asides that flesh out the story, so you get a better understanding. As an aviation historian, I knew a lot of the historical facts he recollects, but never tied them all together like Waldo does in this book.
