Easy to do, Low Impact, Awesome Results!,

This review is from: Walk Away the Pounds 2-Pack: Super Fat Burning + Get Up and Get Started High Calorie Burn (DVD)
These workouts are awesome! You can't go wrong with them. They are easy to follow; no sudden moves, and you don't have to be super coordinated to do them. I never liked to do aerobics because I couldn't keep up, and I couldn't follow along. These workouts are simple but VERY effective!! There are four simple steps to each of the three workouts you get; kicks (not Taebo-type), side steps, knee lifts and kick backs. You don't need a huge living room, you are just marching in place with a little bit of traveling forward and back but if you don't have the room, you can continue to march in place. There are three different workouts; 1 mile, 2 miles, and 3 miles. She incorporates upper body work as well with her 2 pound balls. I use 5 pound dumbbells and it's challenging but not enough to make me quit midway. I always break a sweat about 10 minutes into any of the workouts. You don't have to use weights at all, though. There are a group of people who work out with Leslie and usually one of them is modifying for you. (they aren't all super skinny either, which is nice to see). Leslie is very explanatory while working out and you aren't caught off guard with sudden moves. She talks a bit much and her laugh gets annoying; she is very high energy. The people she works out with talk a lot too but it's ok; I'd rather see them be real than to see a bunch of robots working out. The faces they make when they don't realize they are on camera are hilarious! With regard to her talking about "God" during her workouts is not offensive. She doesn't say the word "God". She says the word Heaven maybe twice, and she says to "count your blessings." Which I don't find offensive. She doesn't go on and on about religion. You can do the 2 mile walk in 30 minutes and the 3 mile walk in 49 minutes, I believe. I started with the two miles and did that for a few days before moving on to the 3 mile. Now I alternate according to the amount of time I have. YOu can make the 2 mile just as intense as the 3 mile walk if you add more weights or squat when you are doing the side steps. It has been highly effective for me. I started dieting on the first of October, doing just ab workouts. I did that until the 19th of October when I incorporated cardio, some light weight training and also some bun/thigh work. I have lost 13 pounds total and 2 pants sizes; going from a 14 to a size 10 in less than a month and a half! I have seen quicker results doing these workouts than I did walking around the block, which gets rather boring after awhile. I love that I can workout anytime I want and I don't have any excuses not to. Rain or shine, I can workout! I highly recommend these workouts! I am more motivated, more energized and happier than I have ever been with ANY other workout!

I've tried many work out tapes but the problem was that many require alot of space, alot of time, very physical movements and after a while didn't hold my attention. I was skeptical at first about just walking to work out, but it is more than just walking. It's a combo of easy/natural leg work (kicking), arm work, light weights, and brisk walking. The system I ordered which has 1,2& 3 mile walk is perfect! I have a choice of what intensity I want to work out based on how fit I feel & how much time I have on my hands. I started out with the 1 mile, which is a nice short 20mins workout. This is also perfect for those days I feel lazy & just want to do something short or those days where I don't have a lot of time & want to do something quick for the day. The movements are easy (kicks, knee lifts, hand swings, etc.)to follow (I can follow the video on my computer & watch TV at the same time)and the people they use on the video are diverse & fun to work out with. It is a perky crowd & I enjoy the light bantering Leslie has with them.

I may be a "newbie" to Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds workouts, but I am already one of her biggest fans and a true advocate of her low-impact walk aerobic system. You will read lots of opinions in the following reviews, but here are the facts: * WATP is a balanced exercise program promoting fitness for individuals of all ages and physical descriptions. Regardless of whether you are young, old, overweight, out of shape, have physical limitations or are in prime condition - these workouts have something to offer! Expect a few minutes of warm-up time followed by exercises of graduating speed and intensity, a cool-down period and a few quick stretches to wrap it all up. * These WATP workouts are equivalent to walking 1, 2 or 3 miles at a brisk pace. Each includes simple steps (marching in place, side-steps, knee-lifts and kick-backs), upper body work (reaching, stretching, pull-downs and clapping) and an opportunity to incorporate light weight training along with the cardio. (Personal note: I prefer using dumbells rather than the Walk Away Weighted Balls simply because you can buy them anywhere, they are easier to hold and don't get slippery in my hands when I sweat - plus, I can vary the amount of weight I want to use on a daily basis.) * These workouts can be easily personalized and modified to suit your own fitness level while giving you the motivation to increase your strength, endurance and stamina. You just cannot do it wrong no matter what. * YOU WILL LOSE POUNDS AND INCHES! Be consistent and you won't believe how quickly your body begins slimming down and toning up! In only 6 weeks I have shed 22 pounds by eating sensibly and working out with Leslie every day. * Leslie is cheerful and motivates you all the way through the workout. Some sourpusses don't like that much, but I don't consider it a flaw. Instead, I am impressed that she is able to lead the workout and verbally coach through the duration without getting winded. Some of her chatter IS repetative, but that has no affect on the quality of the workout. * You never fully "outgrow" these workouts because you can always up the challenge by increasing the weight of your dumbells, adding ankle and wrist weights, or just pushing yourself to workout longer or at a higher intensity. Combining workouts is another way to challenge yourself further. I like doing the WATP 3-Mile Super Fat Blaster followed by the WATP Express 4-Mile Super Challenge. * WATP workouts may not be challenging enough for power athletes, but for the majority of us who want fitness results without wasting our time and money on intimidating, painful and ultimately impossible workouts - WATP is the ONLY way to go. God bless you Leslie and keep your lovable chatty workouts coming!

Great low impact workout!,

This review is from: Walk Away the Pounds 2-Pack: Super Fat Burning + Get Up and Get Started High Calorie Burn (DVD)
I regularly work out 4 times a week at the gym but I hurt my back a couple of weeks ago. I really needed to find a low impact workout that would not strain my back muscles and still give me a great aerobic workout. This is it!! Leslie is a little chatty, but the workout is phenomenal. You can really feel it in your entire body, but especially your legs, after you're done. The time flies by, even with the 3 mile walk (48 min). The music is great and that's what helps keep the brisk pace. The only thing you need to get is a light pair of hand weights/dumbells.The DVD features women of all ages/sizes and there is even a man working out. I highly recommend it.

A fan of Leslie's 3-mile walk-away workout, I purchased this duo pack in DVD mainly for my extensive business traveling when schedules are tight and I have to fit fitness in. Being able to choose from a 15-min ("Get Started) or 30-min ("Super Fat Burning") workout that only requires me to put a DVD into my laptop makes me far more likely to "do something," even when I'm tired and pressed for time. The steps are easy to learn, take little space, and provide a good heart-pumping, sweat-producing workout. I like Leslie's upbeat banter and attitude, and the fact that she includes all ages and fitness levels in her troupe. I've also recently purchased the 4-mile workout and look forward to Leslie's future productions.

Excellent, non-intimidating exercise video,

This review is from: Walk Away the Pounds 2-Pack: Super Fat Burning + Get Up and Get Started High Calorie Burn (DVD)
I'm a 49 year old couch potato with asthma, high cholesterol, and a bad attitude about fitness. I've abandoned many a fitness program over the years: gym memberships, exercise machines, morning walks, even the RCAF 5BX program. Every one I tried left me disappointed -- injuries, expense, inconvenience, or an overly ambitious regimen. I'm uncoordinated, unathletic, unmotivated and find nothing in common with people who love exercising and working out. But ... with high cholesterol and back pain and encroaching middle age, I decided, after years of nagging by my doctor, to give it one last try. She suggested yoga, I bought a couple of yoga videos, then while searching through the selection here at B&N, found Leslie Sansones' Walk Away the Pounds program. The reviews intrigued me -- was this in fact an exercise program that a slob with two left feet could actually do without hurting myself or feeling like an idiot? By golly, the reviewers were right. I've been doing this 3 to 4 times a week since February (it's now the end of April), and I actually FEEL BETTER as a result. Spouse likes to drag me around botanical gardens on the weekends, and these are fun but sometimes a chore when there are steep hills and stairs to climb... last time out, I viewed the uphill climb back to the parking lot with trepidation, but to my amazement I was able to keep up, and didn't feel lousy at the end of the climb. Wow! My chest doesn't hurt now when I exercise (I didn't realize it did before, I was so used to it). I can breathe efficiently again, kinda like a car with a clean air filter. I actually look forward to my one mile or two mile walks in the morning after spouse leaves for work (I still feel silly if I'm spotted doing them though). I don't have to go outside in the rain and cold of winter, or the blazing heat and smog of summer. The cat watches with amusement from my favorite chair, and the parrot yodels along with Leslie's chitchat. It would be premature to say Walk Away The Pounds has made me look thinner -- the pounds so far are doing a pretty good job of keeping up -- but the improvement in my health and fitness level is worth it, even if I never shed an ounce. No fancy dance moves here -- if you can remember to lift alternate feet more or less in time with the music, you can do this program without feeling like a dork. And you can enjoy watching the other exercise ladies (and man) working out with Leslie. There's fat ones, skinny ones, tall ones, short ones, young ones, old ones, well you get the picture. A role model for everyone, whether you're a cut and buffed bodybuilder or a built-for-comfort cuddle bunny. I give this my highest recommendation, because after two months I'm still doing it -- a personal record.

I just did the 1 mile and the 2 mile workouts one after the other, and I have to say, I feel great. I did them with two five pound dumbbells - they really kicked my [rump]!I've tried plenty of exercise videos that had shoddy pacing, camera work, etc. This video is produced well. Leslie and her workout group are also not annoying at all. These videos are quality. These videos seem like they would be good for anyone to try - if you are especially overweight, the moves are very low impact and extremely easy to follow. The video was actually recommended to me by friends doing the weight watchers plan. I am a former athelete (I used to run on a cross country running team)in somewhat decent shape, and with heavier weights and ankle weight, the video is challenging enough for my needs as well. These workouts are also great for college students like me that have tiny dorm rooms - it doesn't require a lot of space at all. I haven't done the 3 mile yet but I'm certainly looking forward to it!! The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think Leslie's plugging her "water weights" got old very quickly. I'm sure I'll be able to tune that out eventually, however. They are also *not* neecessary for the workout!

This set is fantastic. I just started using it two weeks ago and am already starting to notice a difference... not major, but a difference. Believe me, this set is great for any age and any activity level... so if you are beginner, these are a great place to start. I had been either walking at work during my lunch or doing the treadmill at home, which I find totally monotonous and BORING!!! A friend told me about Leslie's videos and that she has been doing them for 8 years!!!! I knew if she had stuck with them for 8 years, they must be great so I figured what the heck!
I have always struggled with my weight but was able to stay at a reasonable weight until I hit 40. Then, well everything went downhill from there!!! Now, I am 49 and with menopause (and the lovely weight and symptoms that come along with that!), undergoing a kidney transplant and suffering from the normal aches and pains of getting older, I had a hard time doing most videos and believe me, I have well over 50 different tapes spanning the past 30 years! After doing the 18-minute mile the first day, I knew this workout was for me. My knees didn't kill me the next day and I felt great... definitely felt like I worked out, but not to the point where I didn't want to do it again. The great thing is having the 18-min., 1-mile and the 30-min., 2-mile. On days where I am trying to squeeze in exercise, the 18-minute is perfect. Then, the other days, I do the 2-mile. I also purchased the 4-mile super challenge, but haven't been able to do that one yet... hopefully, this weekend!!! For once, I can finally say that I am motivated to exercise and for me, that is a major statement. I am really looking forward to getting back into my size 4 pants that I have been saving since my late 30's!!! Believe me, out of all the workout videos I own, this is the first one I have ever written a review for, because I feel so strongly about Leslie's programs. Such simple steps and very easy to follow. If you are looking for a great workout program, this set is a great starting point and then you can add some of Leslie's other WOTP's videos to change it up a bit... you won't be sorry!

If you're looking for an upbeat positive workout experience that features very simple coreography, then Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds programs are for you! This particular set includes three workouts: the 1 mile, 2 mile, and 3 mile. All feature the same group of people, each with a unique personality that will put a smile on your face no matter how sour you are about having to exercise. The 1 mile is really quite easy, the two mile picks it up, and the 3 mile will keep you sweating for most of the 49 minutes!
Leslie uses five basic steps that are easy to follow: - Walking in place - Side Steps - Knee Lifts - Kicks - Kick backs She includes simple arm extensions, swinging movement, and clapping to get the upper body involved. About halfway through each routine, she has you pick up the "walk away weights" and add in some basic lifts and extensions. This really helps to get that extra burn. You can buy very similar weights at Wal Mart or even use hand weights. My wife uses water bottles! The Walk Away routines are fun and definitely positive - you can't help but feeling like you are with friends. I found Leslie's bubbly presonality contagious and don't mind her quirky remarks. This set gives a nice blend of easy going to fairly vigorous routines. Highly recommended! Written by Arthur Bradley, author of "Process of Elimination" - an exciting thriller that pits a martial arts expert against a world-class sniper out to shape the next presidential election. I bought these DVDs on the strength of everyone's Amazon.com reviews and I was not disappointed! This system really is perfect for anyone who needs to get some good exercise in but who may be inexperienced, uncoordinated, or not have a lot of time. I started with the 1-mile, then moved on to the 2-mile, and have done the 3-mile twice so far. All three are great light aerobic workouts! The 1-mile is 18 minutes so it's perfect when time is short but I want to squeeze something in--it's a gentle workout, but you feel your muscles working. The 2-mile is the one I do most often--it's not too intense, but you definitely start to feel yourself sweating after a while. The time goes quickly and before you know it, you're done. The 3-mile is a bit more intense and if you're out of shape, it will challenge you, but not to the "breaking" point. Anyway, if you start to feel it's a bit too much you can always just keep walking and not do the extra moves, or you can just do 1 or 2 miles out of the 3-mile walk. The weights are optional--I don't use any and it's not a problem.
Leslie Sansone is chatty, but very pleasant, and while some of the other walkers behind her seem coached in what to say, it's not too bad. This is a GREAT way to lose weight and get fit for beginners. Just start with the 1-mile and do more when you feel ready. You will see results if you stick to it (I have begun to already). Oh, and one last note--this workout is great for working your legs, but your arms also get a good workout, and there's even some gentle ab work involved! |
