Ages 6^-9. "Plants I Have Known" might have been a helpful subtitle for this book. The jacket illustration shows an Australian rain forest, but the book itself proves that Lewin can find a green path anywhere. Watercolor paintings, which show a variety of different kinds of greenery, are each accompanied by a brief poem and a comment about the pictured plant. The paintings are the most memorable part of the book, beautifully conveying a sense of Lewin's affection for growing things, both backyard and exotic. Fledgling watercolorists may take note of the various effects Lewin obtains with paints, and urban gardeners, no matter their age, will be heartened by her affection for the natural world.
