Book Description

10 and up4 and up
Getting today’s high-tech, computer savvy kids to exercise isn’t easy—but this kit will do the trick! That’s because it includes a cool gadget and the activities seem just like games. And to kids, that spells FUN.
Walk the Walk is jam-packed with creative and entertaining ways to use the child-friendly pedometer that comes attached to the colorful book. See how many steps you take walking the dog—or figure out how many it would take to walk across the ocean if you could. Or give your favorite sport a cool twist by bringing the pedometer into play: first calculate the average number of paces from home plate to first base in baseball or softball. Any runner who can’t reach the base in that number of paces (or less) is out, no matter what. And there’s plenty of other great stuff to do inside, too.
New pedometer-philes will learn how to make the most of this handy gadget, from online pedometer challenges to walk-racing mom and dad.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, doesn't work, June 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Walk the Walk: The Kid's Book of Pedometer Challenges (Spiral-bound)
I work in health care and really like the idea of encouraging physical activity in my kids. I bought this for my 7 year old daughter. She was excited to try the pedometer - it has never worked from Day 1! It is a horrible, cheap item with none of the basic features of other pedometers. Some reviewers said at least the book was worth it - I disagree from our experience. My daughter hasn't even wanted to open it since the first day. After all, how exciting is it to learn about how many steps equal some activity when you can't even count your steps with a functioning pedometer! I bought the Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer for me (twenty-something dollars on Amazon) and might get it for my daughter. Much better item, you can probably skip the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars very motivating for lazy kids!, December 6, 2008

This review is from: Walk the Walk: The Kid's Book of Pedometer Challenges (Spiral-bound)
I bought this for my five year old, hoping it would motivate her to walk more. Boy did it ever! She loved the games in the book, and she loved counting her strides. It made a HUGE difference in her attitude towards exercise. Unfortunately the pedometer broke but Amazon was very good about taking it back. I subsequently bought an Omron digital pedometer. However, for the price you can't beat this book with the companion pedometer - you can always upgrade later. I give the author a lot of credit for appealing to this age group.
