4.0 out of 5 stars A Woodstocker Wanna Be
When I saw this movie, I just knew I had to get this soundtrack. Music is from two genres of the time: the clean- housewifey-music, and the hippie-Woodstock music, to reflect Pearl's and Walker's backgrounds, respectively. I have to say, though, that whoever thought to keep Richie Havens' "Freedom" off the soundtrack made a poor decision. I made another copy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the complete soundtrack...and so expensive!
As some of the other reviewers noted, this CD is not a complete soundtrack. And why are they charging so much on top of that? From memory I can list: More (Bobby Darin), For Your Love (Ed Townsend), The Israelites (Desmond Dekker), Freedom (Richie Havens), Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix Experience), and Subterranean Homesick Blues (Bob Dylan). Some of you might want to burn...

I have to say, though, that whoever thought to keep Richie Havens' "Freedom" off the soundtrack made a poor decision. I made another copy of the cd and added the song myself by downloading it from the web. I now feel it is complete and I have it on continuous play on my surround sound, staring at my lava lamp and wishing for the first time in my life that I were older so that I could have been a part of this great era of music.

Some of you might want to burn a CD with these added as well. Anyway, they could have made a complete soundtrack for this fine film.

I saw the movie and was captivated by the sights and sounds of the era. I bought this CD. I am a generation X baby, a baby of a baby boomer, and had never heard any of this music before and loved it. All the songs are sultry, sexy, thought provoking, and timeless. Each song draws you in to the mood individual mood of freedom and love that's the sunnyside of the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars best CD I've bought in years!, October 9, 2000
This review is from: A Walk on the Moon (Audio CD)
If you came of age in the late 60's, this cd should bring back memories of a special time and great changes. Some old songs I had never heard before by Richie Havens and Joni Mitchell, as well several old favorites, and two good remakes of classics in Crimson and Clover and Crystal Blue Persuasion. I have had this Cd in my car for a week now, and keep skipping though the other cd's to get back to this one. The movie was on a cable channel several times this week, and is a good movie. The sound track establishes the timeframe (summer of 1969) as does the movie title but the sound track also is used as important part of the movie to convey the feelings of those times. Enjoy!

Words can't say how I love this CD. There simply isn't one cut on it that I am tempted to skip over. It just flows beautifully and brings back so many memories of these days. Children of the 80's and 90's eat your hearts out. There will never again be music like this. Whatever your age, if you are young or just remember what it was like to be, you can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best combination of artists from the 60's-70's out there, June 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Walk on the Moon (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is packed with familiar songs and some less notable but all capture the mood of the times. The combination is great because you can experience the 60's and 70's without ever having been there. This CD makes you feel the turmoil and unrest but most of all you can hear the beats and voices that carried messages of peace in a time of war. It's not the conventional music we usually think of as being stereotypically 60's or 70's. Instead, they give us an accurate representation of the music as it really was; folk was extremely popular and the edgy sounds of Janis Joplin were on the rise. No one artist dominates the CD which makes for a great blend of talented musicians that were appreciated then and now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Babyboomer and Child!, September 8, 2001

I was amazed that my 21 yr. old sonloves this soundtrack as much as I do!Frankly, he and I have been passing it back and forth between us for weeks now. Most of the songs, other than 'Ripple' he had never heard before. Itsa beautiful thing to see your own kidsfalling in love with 'our' music.I found 'Cactus Tree' and 'HelplesslyHoping' so sensitive and appropriate inthis film. And only Judy Collins couldgive us such tearful pause as Pearl said 'Good-bye' to Walker. And whats not to Love...with Janis' "Summertime'.I must admit though, I expected to seeRitchie Havens 'Freedom' and Hendrix/Purple Haze included within.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great blend of music and story line., November 9, 1999

This review is from: A Walk on the Moon (Audio CD)
A nostalgic sound that blends nicely with a story line about choices. The movie, which is really good, and the music enhance each other--a must for those of us who came of age to the Youngbloods and Jefferson Airplane.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Love this CD!, June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Walk on the Moon (Audio CD)
I was coming of age in the 60s, and have shuddered at the consistent re-use of that era's music. So, I'm amazed that I not only loved this movie, but have bought the CD...it's a rediscovery of some of the best of that music, sensitively chosen. Also, as a person who normally detests covers of songs by other artists, these are first-rate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic music capturing an era, May 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Walk on the Moon (Audio CD)
Not only was this an incredible movie, the soundtrack captures the essence of the movie. There is such transition in the songs which was the same transition of the times...all leading to Woodstock and an awakening. These songs, not your normal mainstream, just time warped me back to a time I almost forgot. The mix is incredible (White Bird, Today, Follow...). The only complaint (why a 4 star and not a 5 star) is the fact that some of the songs aren't the original artists (Town Without Pity, Sally Go Round The Roses, and so on... but worthy efforts)
