Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap

Golfweek’s first-ever book is a treat for anyone who loves golf. A Walk in the Park is a tour-de-force of the country’s 100 premier layouts split into two categories: classic courses created prior to 1960 and modern courses designed thereafter.

Compiled by Golfweek’s longtime architecture editor Bradley S. Klein, A Walk in the Park includes the best architecture writing—both comic and critical—from a variety of senior staff writers.

Utilizing Golfweek’s "America’s Best" rating system, this full-color book contains stunning photography and detailed course profiles of the nation’s top 100 courses, including traditional layouts like Pine Valley and Augusta National as well as modern gems like Sand Hills and Pacific Dunes.

The courses range from private and resort to public and daily-fee courses, some of them established U.S. Open sites. These exceptional courses dot America’s countryside: from Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, Kansas and Whistling Straits in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee and The Rim in Payson, Arizona.

All told, 30 of the 50 U.S. states are represented within.

A Walk in the Park is also packed with features that provide a better understanding of what makes a great golf course’s architecture so special, as well as a look at the behind-the-scenes maintenance required to keep a course in top shape and the superintendents who oversee such tasks.

This is an indispensable book for golfers, enthusiasts, collectors, and travelers: a comprehensive guide of the most famous, infamous, and not-so-famous gems of America’s links.
