U2 "Achtung Baby" 20th Anniversary

Biography

U2 formed in 1978 after Larry Mullen pinned a 'musicians wanted' ad to the notice board at Dublin's Temple Mount School. Adam Clayton had discovered rock'n'roll as a thirteen year old, buying his first acoustic guitar and then talking his parents into buying him a bass guitar. 'It just sounded good to me. Deep and fat and satisfying.'

From the beginning, U2 were marked out by their passion. "A band… Read more in Amazon's U2 Store

4.0 out of 5 stars One remix, one radio edit, one unreleased track from Pop!, February 27, 2001

If you already own the "Stuck in a Moment" singles, you won't be getting anything new off of this single as it features the same B-sides... but it's still a great CD to have, especially if you're a U2 collector.

1. Walk On - A very uplifting song. It starts off with Bono talking over Edge's piano and Larry's drumming. Then in come Edge's signature chiming guitar notes. This is indeed the "pure U2 sound" - whatever that means. ;) The song is pretty much the same as the version on "All That You Can't Leave Behind", except it's about 20 seconds shorter.

2. Big Girls Are Best - Sounds like an outtake from U2's Pop album. And since this song is produced and mixed by Howie B, that's the very reason why it sounds like it belongs on Pop! It's very Beatles-esque, with vocal harmonies and a classic Beatles "yeah yeah-yeah yeah". Take this song for what it is - a very harmless, fun, pop-rock song with a 60's groove to it.

3. Beautiful Day (Quincey & Sonance Remix) - I'm not too big on "filler remixes" - you know the kind. One beat over and over a lyric. Boring! Wait a second though! This is not that type of remix! It might sound like it for the first 30 seconds, but the rest of it is much more interesting. More sonic layers find their way into the song, including a very soothing Bono vocal, and some futuristic synths and a very crisp sounding guitar. Finally after 2 and a half minutes, the chorus of Beautiful Day cuts in, and fades into the lyrics of Beautiful Day with a dance beat overlayed in the background. The chorus for the rest of the remix is very fresh sounding, with Edge's guitar echoing in and out. Very beautiful! No, this isn't a butchered attempt at a remix - this is truly a new innovative way of representing Beautiful Day. It's still such a happy and inspirational song.

3.0 out of 5 stars Round out the collection, February 27, 2001

Part 2 of the Walk On CD singles also has three tracks: Walk On, Big Girls Are Best, and Beautiful Day (Quincy & Sonance Remix). Big Girls Are Best is a fun, disposable song that's perfect for a b-side. While the remix of Beautiful Day was interesting at first, it quickly became repetitive and boring. The same beat is repeated over and over for almost eight minutes. But let's face it. You're not gonna buy this CD expecting the greatest music. You're gonna buy this CD to satisfy your curiosity and to add to your U2 collection.
