U2 "Achtung Baby" 20th Anniversary

Biography

U2 formed in 1978 after Larry Mullen pinned a 'musicians wanted' ad to the notice board at Dublin's Temple Mount School. Adam Clayton had discovered rock'n'roll as a thirteen year old, buying his first acoustic guitar and then talking his parents into buying him a bass guitar. 'It just sounded good to me. Deep and fat and satisfying.'

From the beginning, U2 were marked out by their passion. "A band… Read more in Amazon's U2 Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible... absolutely incredible, March 5, 2002

Emma Brittenden (Canterbury, New Zealand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Walk on 1 / Where the Streets Have No Name / Stay (Audio CD)
I owe so much to Walk On, for it was the one song which really introduced me to U2 (I know, about time!) and convinced me to buy All That You Can't Leave Behind, which was so wonderful I became a huge U2 fan.

The best word I can think of to describe this song is uplifting, because it certainly uplifts me. Every time I hear this song I feel so happy :) In fact, my new year's resolution was to listen to it every day, because I realised just how happy it does make me.

Everyone should buy this single, not just because it's WALK ON!!! (need I really say more???) but because it is a different version to the one on the album- so anyone even slightly obsessed with the song has an extra big reason to get a copy.
The other tracks on the Australasian release are almost as good, and I was surprised at the sound quality on these live tracks. Stay is especially good, with a backing which is far better than the comparitively cold version on Zooropa. Gone and Where The Streets Have No Name are also fabulous.

Walk On is an amazing song, and it deserves far more airplay than it receives (especially in New Zealand, where our radio stations refuse to play it for some strange reason) so everyone should at least listen to it once (and with an open mind)...
...and prepare to be uplifted!!
(By the way, I've listened to this song well over 200 times, and yet every time I listen to it, I hear something new. This is NOT a song you can easily get sick of!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this australian version instead of the UK single, February 2, 2002
This review is from: Walk on 1 / Where the Streets Have No Name / Stay (Audio CD)
This single has the same songs of the UK edition of Walk On, part 1, plus Gone (Live from Boston), so it's a better choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE Bono... Too bad he's taken..., January 3, 2005
This review is from: Walk on 1 / Where the Streets Have No Name / Stay (Audio CD)
This band is absolutely unbelievable. They continually raise the bar up and up, musically. They completely out-do themselves with each and every new album. I am so connected to this artist that I can think of a U2 song that coordinates with all the important moments in my entire life. (Don't worry- I'm not THAT old... only 26) Basically the moral of the story is that you just can't go wrong when the word U2 is on the cover of an album. Really. It's the God's honest truth that anyone -- young or old, or in between, or just young at heart -- will be floored by the infinite musical talent that this band brings to the table. So dig in... even if they sell it at other retailers. (but just make sure that Target already sold out of it first!!!!!!) ha ha...... enjoy the beauty of music. Good luck!
