Okay, so Smashmouth can be a fairly obnoxious-sounding band -- it doesn't help that their hit "All-Star" was overplayed to death in the late '90s and early '00s, thanks to movies like "Shrek" and "Mystery Men." So the lead singer can't sing, their instrumentation is pretty cacophonous, and their lyrics are fairly banal, hinting at some deeper meaning but ultimately just strings of words without a lot of purpose. But one can't deny that their songs are dang catchy, and "Walkin' On the Sun" is no exception.

Maybe I missed this song when it first came out... but I was reintroduced to it via one of "Weird Al" Yankovic's polka medleys, which featured this catchy little number. And even that goofy snippet was catchy. The lyrics do hint at a deeper meaning, with references to Woodstock and "acting now" before it's too late, but heck if I can figure out if they mean anything. Still, every time this song comes up on my MP3 player I find myself bobbing my head and singing along to the chorus. Even if I have no idea what "walking on the sun" really means, I'll enjoy this goofy, rockin', and ultimately silly but enjoyable little '90s number every time I hear it.

Do like terrible music that happened to be on during your formative years? Then you know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that I love this song but it has absolutely no artistic merit. I love it only ironically, but that doesn't mean I won't rock out to it at the drop of a hat.

Don't know why there's a minimum for words when reviewing music. Listen to it. You'll know immediately whether it's something you'll like or not. For me, it's memories of the wonderful kind and still gets the booty moving.

I absolutely love this song. Itunes will not sell you only this song. You have to buy the whole album. So, I bought it here, then moved it over to Itunes, which was surprisingly easy.

This song is alright. I thought it was a new Midnight Oil song when i first heard it. One of the cool things about it is the Doorsy organ on it.

Not a fan of the band, but every now and then, they hit the nail on the head. Would never buy an entire disc for that one elusive song.
