4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD CD, April 11, 2002

Don't let the four stars fool you, this is still a great cd, but I prefer to listen to WILD IN THE STREETS, BACK FOR ANOTHER TASTE, LONG WAY TO HEAVEN, and NO REST FOR THE WICKED. This does have a lot of wonderful tracks on it though such as ROCK YOU, the remake of GIMME GIMME GOOD LOVIN', ANIMAL HOUSE, and WHEN THE HAMMER FALLS. Give it a try, I know you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of 80's giants gets remastered, March 11, 2001
By
JOHN T BELANGER (DEARBORN, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Walkin the Razors Edge (Audio CD)
I'll never forget the first time that I heard "Rock You". It was a live simulcast on the radio and the very gifted lead singer, Brian Vollmer, substituted the stations call letters, W-L-L-Z, for the R-O-C-K in the chorus. I was hooked. This remastered reissue holds up to that original feeling. The two important songs on this offering, "Rock You" and "Make Me Do Anything You Want", come thundering out of the speakers crystal clear and sounding better than ever. This disc is a must have!

I had never heard of Helix, until my husband introduced me to their music. We love it so much that we listen to it on a regular basis. This is an awesome CD for anyone looking for something new in the hard rock world!

I bought this for my husband, who remembers listening to this when he was a teenager. We tried to find it at our local music store at the mall but they couldn't even order it. Amazon truly has everything from A to Z.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamite hard rock/heavy metal album - reissued, October 20, 2011
This review is from: Walkin The Razors Edge (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1984, Walkin' the Razor's Edge was the fourth full-length album from Canadian hard rockers Helix. The band had served up a series of rock solid albums starting in 1989, but it was Walkin' the Razor's Edge that gave them their first real hit with the anthem "Rock You" and some notoriety with the video for "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'."

Walkin' the Razor's Edge was also the most metal of the Helix albums. Most Helix albums rocked pretty hard, but this is the one that could legitimately be considered a metal album. It's still really melodic and has that rock n' roll spirit, but there's a lot of heaviness on display here, and more than a few songs that get your head banging. Leadoff anthem "Rock You" is the obvious highlight, but songs like "When the Hammer Falls," Six Strings, Nine Lives" and "Animal House" also stand out. It's just a really solid, totally fun example of the early `80s heavy metal sound.

If you're already a Helix fan, you know this album is a must-have. If you're a fan of the `80s hard rock and heavy metal sounds and haven't yet checked out Helix, you really need to do so, and Walkin' the Razor's Edge is the perfect place to start, especially now that it has been reissued.

Edition Notes: Reissue specialists Rock Candy reissued Walkin' the Razor's Edge in 2009, and they definitely did it right. In addition to a completely brilliant digital remastering, the reissue features three live bonus tracks (taken from a 1985 London performance) and very informative expanded liner notes. It's a fantastic reissue, and enough to push this album solidly into 5-star territory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old School Rock, February 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Walkin The Razors Edge (Audio CD)
This CD is old school rock at its best. It may not be Helix's best album, but the songs are really catchy. When you listen to helix, you don't hear a guitar sound like Van Halen or George Lynch, but you get good solid rock and roll from these guys. They were a very underrated band in the 80's. None of the musicians could hang with the best, but together they are a great rock band. Just listen to the CD 2 or 3 times and see if you don't start humming some of the songs within the next day or so. I recently bought this CD along with Wild In The Streets and No Rest For The Wicked.
I highly recommend those 3 CDs if you're going to buy any of them. Those are my favorites. Rock on Helix!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great good time hard rock!, June 22, 2004

Helix will never be known as progressive or thinking man's metal but who cares?! This is a great solid album filled with good riffs, cool solos, and the fine vocals of one Brian Vollmer. I have fond memories of listening to the cassette over and over back during the Christmas of 1984 when my family flew to Georgia. Because of the airfare my brothers and I did not get any presents, but this album pulled me through! My favorite tracks are Young & Wreckless, 6 strings 9 lives, and You Keep Me Rockin. There is not one bad song on here. No Rest For The Wicked is another great album from this good time Canadian band. It's a shame that guitarist Paul Hackman passed away. Rest In Peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars 25 years later and it still rocks!, December 18, 2005
This review is from: Walkin the Razors Edge (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest ROCK albums of the 80's. Some people claim bands i never heard of from the Hair band decade made great albums like, Waysted, Danger Danger, etc. THEY SUCK! Those bands have keyboards and lame singers no guitar solos, you know what I'm talking about. HELIX ROCKS YOU! The songs have powerful guitars, searing solos, and great melodies. Rock You, Make me do, Feel the Fire, Animal House, Six strings, Nine Lives are the cream of the crop. Buy this and you will fall in love with this band.
