4.0 out of 5 stars Very good cd from Lisa Keith, an underrated vocalist... February 9, 2005
Format:Audio CD
I discovered Lisa through Alexander O'Neal and female r&b vocalist Cherrelle. Lisa did great background vocals for each of the great vocalist mentioned before. So I was quite curious to listen Lisa's only CD and I was not dissapointed. She possess a wonderful voice and it's a shame I haven't heard anything else from her. I hope to hear something at some point from this awesome singer. I definetly reccomend this recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest pop albums you've never heard October 22, 2006
Format:Audio CD
This blissful album is simply amazing. A prolific backing vocalist for a large roster of artists, she struck artistic (but not commercial) paydirt with this very special album. There are no bad songs, but recommended above others are the fun pop ditties "Love Me Like You Do" and "Free As You Wanna Be", the spiritual ballad "Adonai" and my personal favorite "Love Isn't Body, It's Soul" in which Lisa emphasizes the importance of her personality over her outward appearance. Note to L.K. if she's reading this: That is a very strong moral value to have, and while I don't want to undermine the importance of it, keep in mind that you are a beautiful, statuesque woman. Be proud of that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great R&B album; nothing like Amy G. July 25, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I couldn't disagree more with "A Customer" who wrote his/her review in 2004, stating that "Keith's songwriting collaborators, producers, record label, et al, are the same as Amy Grant's." That is actually false. Lisa Keith's music was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis -- well known R&B producers -- as well as Spencer Bernard.

I think I might understand "A Customer's" comparison of this album to Amy Grant's "Heart in Motion" as that of Christian artists who recorded a mainstream album. But the similarity stops there. I disagree with the comment, "Amy Grant seems to be lurking in the shadows on every track." Lisa Keith sounds nothing like Amy Grant. Amy's vocals are lovely, yet simple and straightforward [read: no vocal acrobatics], on a light pop style album. Lisa's vocal style is similar to Janet Jackson's -- R&B grooves that are quite brilliant but not overdone -- and, in fact, Lisa has sung background vocals on some of Ms. Jackson's songs. I am kind of wondering if "A Customer" even listened to Lisa's album!

Overall, this is a fantastic album -- I enjoy listening to it very much -- excellent vocals and musicians, and lyrics that are positive (not trashy). If you like early 90s R&B dance music and ballads, you'll love this album!

Here is the problem: You have a talented vocalist who is backed by two of the best in the business (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis), you make it do what it do, and then...nothing after that. REALLY? Truthfully, this was one of those recordings that I didn't appreciate until years later, and when I gave this a spin, I truly liked what I heard. I felt that she had enough to warrent, at least, a second cd. The songs, although a bit bubble-gumish, had that bounce and some had that soul that I look for in my recordings. She was the total package at the time, and I have no doubt that if she were to return to the scene, she would be more appreciated for her efforts. LIKED IT A LOT, LISA!!!
