By far the best book I've read regarding one-day hikes/walks in the Sorrento/Amalfi Coast area. The book is compact (6.75" h x 4.5" w x 0.5" d) for carrying on the trail, well organized (30 trails over five sub-regions) and efficiently written.

Each trail chapter includes a:
- stats section (difficulty level, distance, hours, etc.);
- brief overview (to help readers decide which trails to do);
- color map: trail, roads, towns, rivers/streams (though not topographic-level detail);
- text directions ("turn here, go there", etc.);
- one color photo: gives real-life visual hike highlight.

Bonus' include color photos of "flowers and plants", a trail comparison chart (summarizing length, elevation gain, etc.), and a one-page glossary of trail-relevant phrases.

This will give you a good overview of the many great hiking opportunities available along - or more precisely, high above - the Amalfi Coast. But before you set out I'd highly recommend buying a copy of the very good, detailed topographic hiking maps available at stores throughout the area ( and probably on line, though I didn't buy mine until I got to Positano).

I can't rate the whole book because I only had time for one of the walks. For the most part, the book did a pretty good job of telling me where to go and what to do to stay on course. However, there were a couple of times when the directions could have been easily written to be more clear.

I did five of these walks in May. Four of them were well-described, but the fifth one (walk #1, over Monte Epomeo, on Ischia) was so inaacurate and misleading on the latter part of the walk that I suspected that the author had not walked the ground herself, but had relied on someone else's description.

For the most part the book is accurate, and it's great for getting you oriented to the possibilities for walks, but take a map for back-up and a compass.

I bought this as a gift for a family member going to Amalfi. As I flipped through the pages, it made me pine for those beautiful vistas. I hope I get a chance to revisit the Amalfitan Coast and try out some of the walks mentioned.
