This will give you a good overview of the many great hiking opportunities available along - or more precisely, high above - the Amalfi Coast. But before you set out I'd highly recommend buying a copy of the very good, detailed topographic hiking maps available at stores throughout the area ( and probably on line, though I didn't buy mine until I got to Positano).

This guide is largely superfluous - once you visit the Amalfi coast, you can easily pick up great English-language maps from tourist information. They're detailed, easy to follow, and cost a few Euro.

This book rambles, the maps are worthless, and the details about bus routes, plant life, and navigation aren't useful.

That said, the walks along the coastline are SUBLIME. Highly recommended - and very easy for moderately fit people - is the famous Path of the Gods ("Sentiero degli Dei") from Bomerano to Positano. We went with a group aged between 10 and 55, and had a wonderful day. Walk out of Nocelle along the road that wends down to Positano, and after about a mile or so you'll come across two restaurants perched on the cliffs with spectacular view and equally spectacular food. Enjoy!

By far the best book I've read regarding one-day hikes/walks in the Sorrento/Amalfi Coast area. The book is compact (6.75" h x 4.5" w x 0.5" d) for carrying on the trail, well organized (30 trails over five sub-regions) and efficiently written.

Each trail chapter includes a:
- stats section (difficulty level, distance, hours, etc.);
- brief overview (to help readers decide which trails to do);
- color map: trail, roads, towns, rivers/streams (though not topographic-level detail);
- text directions ("turn here, go there", etc.);
- one color photo: gives real-life visual hike highlight.

Bonus' include color photos of "flowers and plants", a trail comparison chart (summarizing length, elevation gain, etc.), and a one-page glossary of trail-relevant phrases.

I currently live in Naples, Italy and this is an awesome resource for walks in nearby areas. The Amalfi Coast is beautiful, but it is hard to find a comprehensive guide of walks. Or at least it was hard to find that until this book. The book gives the route of every walk, along with the length of time, the distance, the degree of difficulty and where you can begin the walk. The only issue with the walk is that the maps aren't as detailed as I would like. There are just a few sketch maps for each walk, but they could be bigger.

I did five of these walks in May. Four of them were well-described, but the fifth one (walk #1, over Monte Epomeo, on Ischia) was so inaacurate and misleading on the latter part of the walk that I suspected that the author had not walked the ground herself, but had relied on someone else's description.

For the most part the book is accurate, and it's great for getting you oriented to the possibilities for walks, but take a map for back-up and a compass.

There are some good recommendations in this book, but I wish I bought a hard copy rather than a Kindle copy. I love my Kindle, but it is not good for travel books. I also wish this book had some good hiking maps of the entire area. I'll need to get a hiking map to compliment this book for planning the trip.

I can't rate the whole book because I only had time for one of the walks. For the most part, the book did a pretty good job of telling me where to go and what to do to stay on course. However, there were a couple of times when the directions could have been easily written to be more clear.
