This book rambles, the maps are worthless, and the details about bus routes, plant life, and navigation aren't useful.
That said, the walks along the coastline are SUBLIME. Highly recommended - and very easy for moderately fit people - is the famous Path of the Gods ("Sentiero degli Dei") from Bomerano to Positano. We went with a group aged between 10 and 55, and had a wonderful day. Walk out of Nocelle along the road that wends down to Positano, and after about a mile or so you'll come across two restaurants perched on the cliffs with spectacular view and equally spectacular food. Enjoy!
Each trail chapter includes a:
- stats section (difficulty level, distance, hours, etc.);
- brief overview (to help readers decide which trails to do);
- color map: trail, roads, towns, rivers/streams (though not topographic-level detail);
- text directions ("turn here, go there", etc.);
- one color photo: gives real-life visual hike highlight.
Bonus' include color photos of "flowers and plants", a trail comparison chart (summarizing length, elevation gain, etc.), and a one-page glossary of trail-relevant phrases.
For the most part the book is accurate, and it's great for getting you oriented to the possibilities for walks, but take a map for back-up and a compass.

We actually ended up planning a one-week vacation on the Amalfi coastline using this guide. We could stitch together an entire route where we walk from town to town every day.Published on May 10, 2013 by Peter Scheele
