I started to not even write this review, but since I purchased this book quite awhile ago, I have never done more than casually glance through it. The Bible is the only book of its kind and this is definitely not even a handy reference guide. Again, I hate to say anything bad, because you might be enlightened by it, but I would not buy it again. Sorry, guys.

For those who care more about themselves than God,

This review is from: Walking With The Lord A Christian Devotional (Paperback)
After having read the first couple of chapters, and glancing at the rest, I noticed a theme in the book that disturbed me. It was more about working your way into God's good favor than a response out of love for what Christ has done for us on the cross. If you believe you are saved by grace, not by works (as many Protestants believe), this book is not for you. As an example, the chapter on homeless claimed that if I did not give to the homeless, God would not give to me. This is counter to my understanding of 1st John 4:18, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear." If I respond to God through fear of loss, then my response is not one of love, but one of self-preservation and selfishness. Other chapters are similar, claiming that you'd better do this or that, or you won't receive God's blessing. If you are like me and believe God died to grant us salvation despite our sinfulness, not because we could earn it somehow through works (Romans 5:8, "But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us"), then this book will unfortunately be disappointing.

I have just finished reading" Walking with the Lord"by James Russell. He writes it very well and I enjoyed alot of what he had to say. He seems to speak from personal experience. I am sure that others will enjoy it also.
