More than a brisk walk,
By A Customer
This review is from: Walking to Classics Advanced Cassette: Cassette version Advanced (Audio Cassette)
I'm in fairly good shape (43 yrs old and do aerobics a couple of times a week) but when I first tried this tape I found it almost too fast to walk to. But, after several trials, I realized that if I really tightened my legs and shortened my step, I could keep up (almost like a race-walk). I've also tried the intermediate tape in this series, but I now like this pace better (I do break a small sweat). What I wished I'd known before purchasing, and the info is on the box but not on the website, is that this tape goes from 128-150 beats per minute. The intermediate is 117-142, and the beginner is 104-120. I definitely like the Advanced tape's music better, too. Because it's real classical music and not music made for exercising, sometimes the tempo varies briefly, but if you keep the pace, the tempo comes back around again. The first time I tried it was a crisp fall afternoon in N.E. and the lead song is Handel's Water Music Suite No. 2 ... just glorious. I felt invincible!

I am a fitness pro and I love having music to work out or to walk to. I have bought walking tapes in the past and each time I was disheartened to find perfectly great songs ruined by a new cheest rendition by some unknown singer who has no vocal talent at all. However, I took my chances on this audio and I am thankful!! There is no room for cheese here as the instruments shine through your favorite classical song of Mozart, Bach, and more! Definately for the classical music fan at heart and soul.

It's getting hard to find audiocassettes and this one is very good for walkers. Classical music is at a pace that keeps advanced walkers doing a brisk trot, not an easy amble. The music contains classics everyone knows from Mozart, Haydn, Vivaldi and Beethoven to flamboyant Rimsky-Korsakoff and Tchaikovsky. This is real classical music, not switched-on or with a fake disco beat. The tape has 60 minutes of music, including a warm-up, 45 minutes at pace, and a cool-down. The BPM (beats per minutes) here are 128 to 150 or a rate of 4.5 MPH. Beginner would be 104-120 or 3 MPH, and intermediate 117-142 or 4 MPH. |
