5.0 out of 5 stars "Dead Men Walking"
Folks, lets calm down a bit and remember that this is a movie and not a documentary. I enjoyed this film for the entertainment value rather than insight on history. Any movie with Eddie Griffin and Bernie Mac in it will demand a chuckle. I'm a military vet and have much respect for all who served in the vietnam war, but lets not trash the film over inaccuracies... instead...

1.0 out of 5 stars A joke to the Marines who served with "The Walking Dead"
The piece of garabage don't even rate. I served with the Marine Outfit known as "The Walking Dead" or The 1st Bn. 9th Marines. This movie is an insult to the name of the brave Marines who fought and payed the ultimate price for there country and Corp. This Movie ( what I saw of it ) was the biggest nothing ever put on film. If you want the true story of the "Walking Dead"...

If you want the true story of the "Walking Dead" and believe me there is a hell of a story, then have some film maker get with the Marines who fought for the 1st Bn, 9th Marines. It will surpass any Vietnam era Movie including "We Were Soldiers", "Hamburger Hill" or "Platoon".

1.0 out of 5 stars The Walking Dead, February 5, 2004

It is a crying shame that the producers of this piece of crap chose to use this title. First Battalion Ninth Marine Regiment nicknamed "The Walking Dead" has been done a tremendous discredit by having their name associated with such Hollywood garbage. Read the book instead and don't waste one penny on this junk. The real story of 1/9 would make a tremendous movie.

Any time you connect the words "The Walking Dead" with the Marine Corps, it should only be in reference to 1st Battalion 9th Marine Regiment. Like the phrase "Devil Dogs" it was a title bestowed upon them out of fear and respect by an ENEMY commander. There is no battalion in the Marine Corps and I'm sure the Army who paid a higher price or served a longer period in combat than 1/9.

While this movie's is a fine walk in the woods, it's title is tremendously misleading, especially since the movie references Vietnam and the Marine Corps. It's not just being offended that the Marine Corps is portrayed in some weird light and we Marines or veterans can't bear to see that. On the contrary no one knows more about how whacked the corps or even the military can be than Marines. The problem is, that this connects the very real Marines, living, wounded and dead, that served in 1/9, with nonsense and, I think, tarnishes the image especially for people who don't know the real story.

All of America should know the story of 1/9 in Vietnam to fully understand the sacrifice that our young people of all services made in that place without asking for justification. We should be honoring these men instead of associating their sacrifice and glory with nonsense.

All that is just an attempt at an explanation as to why some reviewers are "over the top" with their harshness at this movie and the connection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Griffin's perfomance was under estimated, March 21, 1999

I think that this movie is the most real view on why blacks joined the corp, and I think that Eddi Griffin's comical pesonality is what the director had in mind to show how cold hearted you had to be to get through the war.

This movie is about a black army platoon who thinks they have gone on a secret military operation but, are really decoys...So they are not the hunters they are the hunted...All of these black men came from diffrent backrounds ..so that creates tension through the entire film..All around good movie...

5.0 out of 5 stars STILL A GREAT MOVIE, August 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Walking Dead [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie was better than good, it was the most requested video that hit stores and video clubs during the winter it was released. Unfortunately for them this movie was confused with Sean Penn's Dead Man Walking and it lost out on recognition and money. I hope we come up with better ways to package items, because once you take the plastic off--it's yours! More importantly, please read packaging carefully, if you don't recognize the stars call the video club or store back and make sure it's what you really wanted.

1.0 out of 5 stars It was the worst movie ever made!!!, March 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Walking Dead [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Not only was it boring, it did not have anything to do with the fighting part of the war. It was a bunch of flashbacks, which in my opinion, are the worst kind of movies; but these flashbacks had absolutely nothing to do with the war... it dealt with the men's lives way before they entered the war and I felt it was really stupid! Even my dad, who was in the war, turned the movie off and walked away.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst movie ever made!!, March 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Walking Dead [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Not only was this a terrible movie but it had absolutely nothing to do with the war itself. I don't think that there really was a point to making this movie... the whole thing was a flashback, and in my opinion, those are the worst kinds of movies!!! Aside from the fact that it was a terribly written and poorly perfomed film, the "two-minute" war scene that they decided to include, was extremely cheesy and unrealistic. My dad is a Vietnam Vet and even he turned the movie off! so I would definately advise everyone NOT to rent/buy The Walking Dead. Isn't it a shame that the title is better then the movie itself!! if you want to see a Real War movie, rent Tour of Duty (which I Highly recommend, it was a TV show back in 1988), Platoon, Platoon Leader, or Hamburger Hill.
