Finding helps for our devotional time can be a challenge. Often, many of them merely offer a "Daily Crumb" rather then a satisfying meal of Scripture. This new collection of the late Dr. Martin Lloyd-Jones writings, arranged into 365 daily readings, seeks to offer devotional material that engages the mind in addition to the heart. One feature I especially like in their arrangement is that each month has a theme, such as "New Life in the Spirit" (January) or "Knowing and Serving God" (August). I have enjoyed the continuity and thematic thinking that this enables the reader to do. One other feature that I enjoy is that each excerpt lists the book and page numbers from which it was taken, something that many collections like this fail to do. This enables a person who is interested in reading more on a given topic, to know where to find it!

All in all, editor Robert Backhouse has provided a great service in compiling these many words of wisdom, challenge, and devotion from Lloyd-Jones into a useful resource for believers today. Try it and see how it can help you 'glorify God and enjoy Him forever'.

Too many devotionals fall short when it comes to conviction and rebuke. Lloyd Jones doesn't pull any punches. Each day he challenges you to think differently and pushes you further up the hill of Christianity. It is strange saying D. Martyn Lloyd Jones is my favorite author since he didn't actually write any of these books. However, the fact that all his books come from his sermons or lectures show that his insight and wisdom are as timeless as C.S. Lewis or Jonathan Edwards. If you are looking for a daily devotional book that gives more than fluffy words of comfort then look no further. This is the book for you!

Anything by this author will be excellent. I highly recommend this devotional. It will expand your knowledge of God.

This is my first Lloyd-Jones book and it is the unadulterated, non-watered down Gospel.
I am gratefully pleased and blessed with this devotional. Its so refreshing to find a book that
is "not ashamed of the Gospel." This man knew the Lord intimately and understood the Bible well.
He wouldn't fit into the seeker-friendly crowd, or the name it claim it crowd and he is not preaching "the social gospel."
He preaches Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

If you like AW Tozer, Oswald Chambers or FB Meyer then Martin Lloyd Jones is for you.

If you want to learn more about God while being challenged to know Him better, this is an excellent daily devo. Lots of great biblical content!

This book has excerpts from the published sermons of Rev. Lloyd-jones. Each month the excerpts are from a different book. Back in 1970 Eerdmans had a daily devotional book using excerpts from his topical books. I much prefer this out of print book to this one.

One shortcoming of this book is that by having 30 or so excerpts from the same book causes some of them to be of lower usefulness than if there were 365 excerpts from 12 books.
