5.0 out of 5 stars one of the greats............, June 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Walking in My Shoes / My Joy (Audio CD)
When I first heard "Walking in my shoes" I must say it didn't appeal to me and I flipped it to "Condemnation".Well one day I put my cd player on shuffle and I was sitting and I heard this sound like no other sound."You stumbled in my footsteps."I loved it.I love Depeche Mode because they have that dark side to them but they also have that warm side too."Walking in my Shoes" is a great single with great remixes like one of my favourites "anandamidic mix".But I almost forgot about the b-side.One of the best b-sides produced by DM.An almost passion plee from David Gahan singing about the one he loves...........but at this time was it a person or was it heroin that everyone knows at this time, that David Gahan was addicted to.Very dark, ver moving, and very Depeche.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, February 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Walking in My Shoes / My Joy (Audio CD)
This is one of the most satisfying singles ever put in CD by anyone. It includes many remixes of Walking in My Shoes, most of them worth it, and also a track not available elswhere: "My Joy", which should be a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!, September 24, 2000
This review is from: Walking in My Shoes / My Joy (Audio CD)
What can I say? Walking in my shoes has been for a long time one of my dearest songs. There are amazing tracks and remixes here. The WIMS remix called Ambient Whales is one of the greatest remixes I've ever heard, and the one called Grungy Gonads Mix is may be even greater. WIMS, btw, is so beautiful and sad, and when i listen to it i just feel so relaxed and purified, especially to the end. Typically it's one of those songs that, although somewhat slow, makes you want to jump, run and shout filled with energy. The same applies to My Joy, which has even more energy. I think that My Joy is in the TOP 3 of the best DM songs.Passion - that's what it is about. I really can't understand why DM did not put it in the album - may be 'cos of the short lyrics - who knows. Anyways this track is awesome - a Chinese Wall of sounds - electronic, awesome drums + horns, strings (to the end). And that line "I am not a mountain, no. You move me!" just moves you so much! So you're not a mountain - move yourself and buy this single right away!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT B-SIDE!, April 14, 1999

The "Walking in my Shoes" single should be recognized for the outstanding b-side track "My Joy" It's what a good song should be, it starts of being catchy, with deep bass and echoing and a little distorted guitars, then ends on a more uplifting emotional drive with the lyrics "you move me" This song is "My Joy"

5.0 out of 5 stars One of DM's Best Singles, December 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Walking in My Shoes / My Joy (Audio CD)
My Joy is one of the stronger B-sides Depeche Mode has put out. It's got a strong atmosphere to it, combining symphonic elements with a grunge-sounding guitar typical to SOFAD-era DM, is complete with lyrics and vocals, and also manages to be uplifting, which is somewhat unusual for DM. In addition to the 7" mix, the Slow Slide mix is also very good...in fact, it's one of the only remixes of a b-side I will listen to.

Walking in My Shoes is also a great song, and lends itself well to remixing. Some mixes border on redundancy, but some, such as the Anandemic mix and the Ambient Whale mix take the song in new directions as well as punch up the atmosphere allready present in the original song.

My Joy is one of the better DM b-sides, and the remixes of Walking in My Shoes are among the least redudant and strongest remixes of DM's singles material. If you're looking to pick up DM singles, Walking in My Shoes is a worthwhile buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Single Album, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Walking in My Shoes / My Joy (Audio CD)
I've come across some disappointing DM Singles ('Home/Useless' single comes to mind automatically with a sour taste in my mouth), but 'Walking in My Shoes' surprised me in that none of the songs sounded too long, too stretched out, or boring. The 'Walking in My Shoes' Random Carpet Mix is one of my favorite mixes, as well as the 'Seven Inch Mix' which is just the original song, just played out a bit longer. The mixes also have 'My Joy', a decent song that reminds me of a rockier version of 'Higher Love'. The 'Ambient Whale Mix' is a pretty creepy, yet soothing song that also has its high merits. This album is perfect for those who love 'Walking in My Shoes' and for those DM fanatics who want every album in their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of DM's great CD singles, November 16, 2009
This review is from: Walking in My Shoes / My Joy (Audio CD)
CD singles can be tough to buy. Some have too few tracks, others might have 1 good mix and the others are rubbish. This is NOT one of those CD singles.

No, this is a GREAT release, with plenty of quality mixes, end-to-end.

The 7" and 12" mixes are fairly straight forward- the 7" is a slight edit to the album version, but it's not just a fade edit. The 12" is a long version of the song that remains faithful to the album track (as a good 12" should do).

The other mixes are all high quality, and all different enough to be interesting.

And then, to top it off, you get the excellent B-side "My Joy." I personally think that "My Joy" is one of the better B-sides from, almost up there with "Happiest Girl."

Now, if you don't like the song "Walking in my shoes" then I doubt this single will change your mind. But if you like the song, you'll LOVE this single. I highly recommend it. I just wish all DM singles were as quality as this one.

Collector's note: the US single does have the US Edit of the Random Carpet Mix. You'll have to find the European import if you're a completionist. Personally, I think that the US Edit (which is about 8 measures shorter than the European version) is still totally a great track - those 8 measures don't change much - so don't worry about it too much.
