I've longed to have a deeper relationship with God; one that grows from the heart, more from the inside out rather than the other. Dan Schutte's book is easy to use. I started passivly reading (doing) an exercies each night reading in bed but after a few nights, I brought it to my kitchen table where I began to wholeheartedly engage in the reflections, allowing the scripture readings to open my imagination, to listen to my inner soul, to learn to pray. To really talk with God.
I just bought the campaignon CD with the 30 Schutte songs that go with each exercise. I finally experienced what it's like to be on a spiritual retreat (similar to the teaching of Ignatius of Loyola). During the day, I've begun to utilize the exercises as a way of living my life, to imagine God at my side. To experience love and to help quench a thirst I didn't know I had. The 30 CD's really was a great deal. Most of the songs are some of my favorit Catholic hymns - I play the CD in the car and know most of the melodies by heart. The lady who leads RCIA at our church told me she started using this book to help people grow in their faith.

This book is more than a book about prayer, reading scripture, meditation, and listening to God. It's a companion resource in helping to unlock the simple mysteries of developing a closer day to day walk with God, knowing the person and love of Jesus Christ and experiencing the fullness of the Holy Spirit in ways I had never known before. I now understand how St. Ignatius of Loyola's Spiritual Exercises have become so powerful in day to day living with Christ. This book is simple but powerful. I bought the music to go with the exercises and just now started to use it. For me, this didn't disappoint but has inspired me to do an exercise each day.

"Walking the Scared Path" is a gift to those involved in full-time active ministries. It provides a meaningful, vibrant structure for strengthening one's relationship with God in the midst of a very active life. The format is simple and structured, yet open-ended for the individual pray-er. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to stay in touch through prayer.
