If you missed it in the 1980s, don't miss it now,

I became a Yoko fan in my early teens in the late 1970s. In 1981 when "Walking on Thin Ice" came out on 45, I bought it and I thought it was brilliant. I still do. You would think more John Lennon fans would have wanted to hear the record that he and Yoko were working on the night he was killed, but no, "Walking on Thin Ice" was never listened to or appreciated like it should have been. This was the era of the early New Order, Depeche Mode, OMD, and Pet Shop Boys records. You would think "Walking on Thin Ice" would have fit right in. Was it not marketed properly? Maybe. But I remember calling a radio station to request it in the 1980s, during the naivete of my high school years, and being told "This radio station plays no Yoko Ono whatsoever." Now "Walking on Thin Ice" has been remixed and reissued, bright shiny and new, for the millennial dance floor. All the remixes bring creative inspiration to the song while remaining true to Yoko Ono's classic release. It's as haunting and enchanting as ever. And am I the only person in the world who's ever counted how many times Yoko sings "Ice!" on the original 45? "Ice! Ice! Ice! Ice!" 128 times. That's the date John Lennon died, 12-8 of 1980.

YOKO RULES THE WORLD!,

Anything by the ever popular Yoko Ono automatically get my vote, but this cd will rock anybody not just Ono freaks. Dance the night away to the squeeks and screams of the worlds most unrecognized diva. Practically all the mixes are great obviosly the mixers have taste and a true love for Yokey Okey. Especially the Pet Shop Boys who have designed some of thier best copositions as of late and are rubbing thier gold dust all over the Thin Ice. By buying this single you are purchasing a ticket into the "know". You'll be so ahead of the curve and so on top, but not in a fake "I read this was cool" way. Yoko's influence has yet to be fully understood and is slowley being relized. Won't you be the envy of all your freinds when you pull out your "Walking On Thin Ice" single and you've known all along?!

I still have my "Walking On Thin Ice" 45 that I would play when I dj'd a disco party back in 1981. The original is one of the best songs of the 80's. The beginning guitar intro sucks you in like a funnel. Playing it in my car is like gliding above the clouds.Anyhow, this ten version cd is overkill of the best kind. The variations have a similar dance theme but blend into interesting and diverse variations. I'll highlight my favorite tracks. The first track, by the Pet Shop Boys, starts out very Giorgio Moroder of Donna Summers fame. The Pet Shop Boys use the same intoxicants to stimulate and surge every fibre of one's "I can't stop shaking my entire" being. The second track, by Danny Tenaglia, is a fast paced s l o w dance. It's the kind of beat one wants when dancing close to someone you really want to be intimate with. Track five, more Pet Shop Boys madness. Kind of music that would be great for a 360 degree surround film of one flying over clouds and mountains, etc. Lastly, track ten by Peter Rauhofer, this is the most innovative and brilliant reinterpretation of Yoko's "Walking On Thin Ice". When I listen to this one I can feel the chill of the ice hanging from the ceiling as I see my breath smoking and swirling through the frigid air (and I live in Florida). While all the versions offer something unique and of value, four of them are outstanding. Track ten is absolutely brilliant. If Yoko is doing a dance cd as I've heard, I hope " Hell In Paradise" and "Cape Clear" are being considered as extended plays.

This is the fourth single in the last year and a half that was released by Yoko Ono that has hit the dance chart -following "Open Your Box","Kiss Kiss Kiss" and "Yang Yang" . This single marks probably the first time Ms. Ono has been number one by herself and this is the remixes for her 1981 classic "Walking On Thin Ice" that in its original form was like a Chic funk dance record. These mixes are from the Pet Shop Boys whose radio(4:04),Electro mix(6:34) and the house/nrg Extended Dance mix(7:56). These mixes are the best because they don't overpower the song or vocals. The next best mix is the Felix da Housecat Tribute mix(5:26) and is so close to the original that it's scary. Excellent. The Peter rauhofer Electro mix(6:06) and Chill Mix(4:55) are very well done. The best house mix though is the FKEK mix(9:52) that features more of the vocal theatrics of Yoko. Excellent mix. The Danny Tenaglia Walked Across the lake Mix(12:38) is good but a little drawn out. The worst mix is the Rui da Silva Kismet mix(10:39) - just boring. Plus you get the wonderful Orange Factory Radio mix(3:52). Excellent cd single that gives the Legend her due .

"thin ice" being one of my favorite yoko songs, i was thrilled butunsure at the same time when i heard it was going to be remixed. the original is awsesome!! all 10 mixes are good the standouts for myself are the petshop boys extended mix and the danny tenaglia walked accross a lake mix. the petshop boys extended mix takes me back to the 80's. Danny Tenaglia's remix is incredible alot deeper that other mixes. felix da housecat's tribute mix is just what is says, basically a rehash of the original minus lennon's stunning guitar work. overhall i would highly recommend this cd to any serious yoko fan. this cd will also serve as a good introduction to the non fan. can't wait for the remix album!!

Yoko - Queen Of The Disco,

Ten remixes might seem like overkill, but all ten are actually highly listenable. Being a huge Pet Shop Boys fan, I'm particularly drawn to their three mixes - especially their 'Radio Mix.' But.... as good as everything here is, I still prefer the original (1980) version of "Walking On Thin Ice," and I would urge open-minded, adventurous listeners to check it out. It's quite intense.

With the imput of her late husband John Lennon, "Walkin on thin ice" was a Yoko Ono song that had an edge but came out rightwhen disco/dance music was being drowned out by punk rock backlash. This rhythmic propulsion had allot going for it but just didn't get the maketing. These new mixes should find themselves in the dance clubs where it will be better appreciated. Many of the mixes are so far removed from the original song but they use just enough of Yoko's original, most are at least very interesing versions. I enjoy the Pet Shop Boys contributions cause I know allot of their style but many others here are also great, PSB shine on this kinda thing and its good to hear this great song make a comeback thanks to all that contributed to this gem.

I liked "Walking On Thin Ice" from the first time I heard it in 1981. I still have the original single and own several mixes and cover-versions (done by Elvis Costello, Fuzzbox,...) of Yokos masterpiece. All 15 (!) mixes (released on CD, 12" and 2x12"-single) are great, but the standouts for myself are the three Pet Shop Boys-remixes,the Danny Tenaglia-mixes and the Orange Factory-remix. I hope I will not have to wait to long for the announced remix-album!!

It's nice to see Yoko finally getting some credit in the music industry. Regardless of what people think of her personally this single alone shows what kind of talent this woman has and the potential for great work from her if paired with the right person. I was especially excited for the Felix remix but enjoyed everyone on this single. PICK IT UP!!
