Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

As the son of Robert H. Schuller, founding pastor of the Crystal Cathedral megachurch in California and host of The Hour of Power television broadcast, Schuller (Getting Through What You're Going Through) grew up knowing that he would have big shoes to fill. Although he is inheriting the ministry reins, Schuller's goal has been to do so in his own way, and in this book he hopes to inspire others to fulfill their God-given potential and pursue their dreams. The encouragement is fairly trite: Schuller encourages readers that God is with them on their journey, that bad things that happen will be a good part of God's overall plan, and that God has a unique purpose for everyone. While there is a lot of scripture throughout, these are shallow skimmings, with brief thoughts held together by numerous stories and one analogy after another. Tinges of prosperity gospel teaching and undercurrents of pop psychology lead to advice like Christ died for the purpose of ensuring you success in your journey, and Develop an overview and create your own personal map. Despite a built-in audience and a coveted foreword from Dr. Phil, this book may alienate readers with its stale, unclear writing. (Nov.)

This book is classic Robert Schuller. It is well written and straight to the point. In this book Dr. Schuller nails the point across to the reader that we should seek out the path that God has chosen for us, not the path that someone else thinks we should be on. I truly loved this book and could not put it down. I would recommend this book to all readers because it is life changing. Thank you Robert Schuller. My husband and I both felt up lifted from this read.

Robert A. Schuller's book completely uplifted me! This book reminds me that I can walk on my own path; that "everything is possible for him who believes." How refreshing to know that I don't need to model my life on the choices made by others. I can select from the choices God gives me. I would recommend this book to anyone!

Yesterday my 10 year old son and I got to meet Pastor Schuller when he did a book signing in White Plains, New York. He is a wonderful person. I thanked him for writing this book and told him that we watch The Hour of Power every Sunday morning on tv.

I bought a copy of Walking in Your Own Shoes a few days before meeting him and I have been having a hard time putting it down. It draws you into the reality that with God in your life, anything is possible and I have seen this happen in my own life!

I bought "7" more copies of the book to give to friends and family.

WHAT A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS GIFT!!

Walking in Your Own Shoes: Discover God's Direction for Your Life

In his book, Walking in Your Own Shoes, Robert A. Schuller discusses making "wrong turns" in life and how they can shape and strenghten you.

I loved this discussion! I had just gone through a week of mishaps: My car broke down, my computer went haywire, the security gate at my condo broke and I couldn't leave, then I had a flat tire. I was struggling to keep up an open attitude. Why are all these things happening to me now?

Schuller reminded me of God's gifts in adversity. In hindsight, I could see that these problems were temporary. The car was fixed, the computer problem was solved, the gate was repaired and the tire was patched.

This book is helping me to understand the difference between the choices I make and the events that happen in my life, and that I am not alone and I will get through my wrong turns with God's help.

I enjoyed the book, and I feel I'm all the better for having read it. I've read most of Schuller's dad's stuff and this kid is almost as good. I felt at time the book was a bit preachy and tended to talk down to the reader. But that was only in a few spots. Overall the tone was uplifiting. Aside from the Amazon reviews most of the reviews for this book are not positive; however, I feel this is a book that the critics won't get. They don't get it. But the book isn't written for critics it's written for people like you and me. Working people who like to read and believe in a higher being.

I like the fact that spiritual books are making a comeback on the best seller list after books by atheists ruled last year. Also recommended: Martha Bolton's "Race You To The Fountain of Youth". Although the book is secular it's from a Christian publisher AND THE BOOK IS OUTRAGEOUSLY FUNNY, debunking the sentiment that Christians don't have a sense of humor. Race You to the Fountain of Youth: I'm Not Dead Yet (But parts of me are going fast)

And Schuller Junior's book debunks the idea that the offspring of famous people are talentless. Junior wrote a really nice book.
