...a haunting tale of love and time travel... Readers will love Lee and Phoebe's story... as they explore the connection that burns so hot between them it's going to leave scorch marks. --Sabrina Cooper, RT Book Review

A transporting tale of star-crossed lovers caught between cultures and time. --Mary Sharratt, author of Daughters of the Witching Hill

Product Description

Witch trials in Virginia? Salem wasn't the first...

Psychologist Shae Howard treats a patient who claims to recall nothing of the current century. Under hypnosis, Phoebe Wynne tells an astonishing tale of an ocean crossing to Colonial Jamestown, followed by near starvation and a daring escape to a nearby Indian tribe.

Although Shae's ex-husband, seasoned police detective Lee Crowley, is intrigued by Phoebe's story, he remains skeptical regarding her claim that she's from the seventeenth century. A Native American himself, he does, however, admit to feeling a kinship with Phoebe. How is it that she seems to understand his pain and anger at being caught between two cultures?

Phoebe shows Lee "the dreaming," which reveals a misty world where the Powhatan people and Colonial Jamestown come to life... and connects him to his own past. Is Phoebe delusional? A witch? Or has she indeed traveled through time?

5.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing tale and will prove quite the read, February 6, 2011
It's easy to write off outlandish claims as simply crazy. "The Dreaming: Walks Through Mist" tells the story of Shae Howard, as she takes a patient named Phoebe Wynne, who seems to believe she is from the seventeenth century. As Shae listens to Phoebe's story, Phoebe's interactions with Shae's husband and other elements make Shae question the mundane nature of Phoebe, and she begins to wonder if there is something more about Phoebe, be it insanity, displacement in time, or maybe even witchcraft. "The Dreaming" is an intriguing tale and will prove quite the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing time-travel mystery, January 12, 2011
By
Phoebe Wynne is not a typical amnesia patient. After a car strikes her on a modern-day Virginia highway, she's taken to a hospital and at first speaks a language no one understands. As Phoebe recovers from her injuries, she describes a life she purportedly lived in Colonial Jamestown, using rich details to tell her seventeenth-century story of starvation, English oppression, the lost Paspahegh tribe, and accusations of witchcraft.

Her psychologist, Shae Howard, finds a challenge in Phoebe's insistence that she's from the past, and Shae's ex-husband, Detective Lee Crowley, journeys from cynicism to deep involvement with Phoebe and her baffling stories. Furthermore, Lee--a Native American--finds himself drawn to Phoebe's spiritual journeys, known as "the dreaming," and joins her in a long-ago world of a young and violent America. Will Phoebe's past help him understand his life in the present?

Kim Murphy's THE DREAMING: WALKS THROUGH MIST is an intriguing time-travel mystery that's also a tale of cultural identity, modern relationship struggles, and Virginia's troubled early history. The author blends together the diverse aspects of her story seamlessly and delivers an "Ah-ha!" ending that doesn't disappoint. The historical scenes pack an especially powerful emotional punch and open our eyes to a forgotten world that doesn't deserve to be lost to time. I highly recommend this book.

Kim Murphy's current release The Dreaming: Walks Through Mist is a mix of the modern and a 17th-century witch trial (Virginia, not Salem!). Her Civil War ghost stories, Whispers from the Grave and Whispers Through Time, have won several awards, including ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Award, an IPPY (Independent Publisher Book awards), as well a nomination for RT Reviewer's Choice award. Her debut novel, Promise & Honor, was a finalist in ForeWord's awards. Set during the U.S. Civil War, it focuses on the hardships of the civilians. The sequel, Honor & Glory, won ForeWord's Bronze Award in Historical Fiction, and the final book in the trilogy, Glory & Promise, was a Library of Virginia Literary Award nominee. Currently, Kim is writing her first nonfiction title, A Fate Worse than Death: Rape during the Civil War, and a sequel to The Dreaming.
