Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The galvanized steel pegboard organizer is an excellent addition to any work area. The wall-mounted galvanized steel pegboard panels are easy to install with pre-drilled mounting holes on 16-inch centers. A built-in frame flange provides ample hook clearance and full access to all holes without requiring additional framework. The patented double offset hook engagement improves hook stability for safer, more secure tool storage. The galvanized steel pegboard panels also accept traditional common 1/4-inch pegboard pegs. The kit includes two galvanized combo pegboard panels (which cover 32 inches by 32 inches), a 6-foot shelf assembly, three plastic bins with bin hanger, a screwdriver holder, a hammer holder, 15 assorted hooks and brackets, and mounting hardware and instructions.

Standard (generic) pegboard hardware fits as well, albeit rather loosely--single hooks, that is.

In the process of putting together a hobby-room work space it was time to look for a pegboard to mount above my new smith table. I had previously purchased a nice 24X48 polymer unit from Lowes like the two I have mounted in my garage, but, alas, they no longer carry it for whatever reason. After utilizing the poly boards for the last 5 or so years, I'll have nothing to do with the old fiber board pegboards, so I went to Amazon to see what other options were out there...which is where I came across the Wall Control galvanized steel pegboards.

With the rolled edges and built-in mounting solution, it looked like a good option. Looking around the web a bit they had good reviews, so I decided to pick up the two panel pack with the included accessories (Wall Control 30-WGL-200GVB).

Mounting was a snap, and I have to say that the cut and folded steel panels to make the 'standoff' mounting system was great. Love that you don't have to fuss with any spacers or frame to get this up. Luckily my builders actually spaced my studs at a proper 16" apart so I was able to mount the two panels firmly into 3 studs with the included mounting screws.

Build quality is good and these are very, very solid. They will (of course) flex a bit in the middle, but they are solid and durable. The accessories and peghook system is very different from standard pegboard accessories. While the Wall Control unit will accept standard 'round hole' peg hooks and accessories, the galvanized boards also use mounting slots for their own accessories. The hooks and accessories mount very securely due to the way you have to fiddle the hooks into the slots (hard to explain, but these mounts are not going to fall out).

I really like the idea of the wall control system and it looked great when I set it up two years ago. I love that it is made in the USA!!!! The galvanized steel pegboard has been great it is nice and sturdy and best of all no rust. But.... The wall control hooks have a big design flaw. They use this black rubber o-ring to help stabilize them when you put them in. Problem is that every o-ring broke off within the first month. You don't have this problem in hooks that attach in two places because they brace each other, but all the single hooks are loose. The good thing is that with they way they attach they will not just fall out. All that said I find the shelf, screwdriver holder, and hammer holder the most useful because they don't need the o-rings. I especially love the 2" hammer holder because it will hold almost any DeWalt tool I have and can support a lot of weight. Now if they redesigned the single hooks with some sort of stabilizing flange then this system would be perfect (except for the cost).

Much better than standard pegboard for two reasons:

A) Wood/paper pegboard degrades over time from use, moisture, age. I doubt that applies to metal.
B) Items that attach by the slots are secure, very secure once the small tabs on each accessory.

Installation was a snap. I attached them in the basement on concrete block with Tapcon screws. The panels are flexible enough to handle the not-so-perfect surface of concrete block.

A WARNING about INSTALLATION. The panels should not be butted up against each other. There should be a 1/4" to 3/8" gap between them. Why is the gap necessary? If you want to install a shelf, for example, that SPANS two panels the panels have to be precisely spaced. Note that in the marketing photograph nothing spans the two panels. What I did was install one panel, hold the second panel roughly in the right place, then I installed the "bars" that are used for the shelf and bins such that they spanned the two panels (ok, I had my son help!). Thus I was able to determine the appropriate gap between the panels.

Only suggestion for the manufacturer is to offer wider panels, but not for my benefit because I doubt that I will ever have to replace them :)

This is a heavy duty replacement for standard peg board storage. Although you can install it on wallboard using screw anchors I would use molly bolts if I was doing it that way. The best way of attaching the panels is on the studs. Since my garage has finished wallboard over 16inch studs that is what I did. Once you figure out where the studs are installation is straight forward. I bought 6 panels so my wall is 96 wide by 32 high. It looks great and I can hang pretty much anything I want on it.

The supplied hanger attachments are superior to the standard pegboard items for most purposes but it accepts both. I ended up with a mix of both since I had a lot of the old ones around. I can highly this product.

I love the look & feel of the metal panels and the option to use either the slotted hangars or traditional ones that go in the round holes. The panels were simple to install and look great. I like that magnets work on the panels. You can either pin things up using magnets or, if you have a level like mine with magnets built in, just stick it up there anywere you want.

The only downside I can see deals with the rubber o-rings that come with the slotted hooks. The o-rings wrap around the base of each hook on the plane where it meets the wall. They serve to stabilize the hook and give it a solid feel instead of letting it swing loosely left and right. I was thankful for that added touch until all the o-rings started breaking after being on the wall for just 2-3 weeks. There isn't much to it, so I don't think I'm installing them wrong. But I think stretching them vertically from one metal edge to the other just cuts through them before too long. It's a shame, but it doesn't ruin the appreciation I have for the whole system. Besides, I can always install the traditional peg hooks if I want.
