4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the jerk with the limited vocabulary allows
There are 58,183 names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The lives they touched tell their stories. This is the story of 3 brave men who never made it home, told in three short, unique segments. THE PENCIL HOLDER: Edward James Olmos plays a tough Colonel struggling to raise his young son on an American military base surrounded by the brutality of battle. THE BADGE: Ruby...

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not about The Wall
This movie is an absolute disgrace to Viet Nam vets and the Wall. The stories are pure fiction, with very little substance to the reality of Viet Nam. Edward James Olmos played a full-bird Colonel with a Purple Heart and two (2) campaign stars with his son living with him in Saigon. I doubt it! With the time of the war that this was supposed to be, military dependents...

THE PENCIL HOLDER: Edward James Olmos plays a tough Colonel struggling to raise his young son on an American military base surrounded by the brutality of battle. THE BADGE: Ruby Dee - in a heart wrenching role - reveals the pain a grandmother feels as she sends her beloved grandson overseas. THE PLAYER: Starring Frank Whaley & Michael DeLorenzo - A selfless squad leader must confront a parasitic hustler who's getting rich off the spoils of war.

This is a GREAT movie, even though it has a underlying anti-war tone.
The three segments depic the war,for the most part,as it was. The last segment hit home for me. We had a guy we called Jammer, man he could play,in our unit. Jammer was KIA thirty days before rotation out.
If you belive in our troops this movie will hit home.

I doubt it! With the time of the war that this was supposed to be, military dependents had been ordered home; with the son riding in the ambulance with the wounded, seems to me to be unrealistic. The medic would have ridden in the rear for emergencies and just to take care of needs of the wounded. The next story is even worse; the last story is the worst of the three (3). This movie is all Hollywood, no substance, completely unrealistic. This is what Hollywood wants people to believe Viet Nam was like--it was not! The movie was filmed in Canada and does not look anything like Viet Nam. If I could, I would rate this movie even lower. This movie should be avoided, even 'Vietnam War Story' was better than this drivel.

1.0 out of 5 stars CRAP!, August 12, 2001

This was utter, utter ...(bull). I rented this movie and I would have baseball batted this piece of ...(bull) across my backyard but, I didn't want to have to pay for it. Wasn't even worth the $4 I spent renting it. It's shallow attempt at sentimentality was just mindbogglingly stupid. I actually regret renting this and wasting those fleeting moments of my life on it. I wanted to sue the company that made this movie for that couple of hours I wasted on this ...(bull) back but, it wasn't worth the time. Complete ...(bull). Never ever even contemplate renting this. AWFUL.
