I purchased this to use for transfer of patterns for my wood burning hobby. I did not realize that this tool would get as hot as a regular wood burner and perhaps that was my mistake in thinking it would work at a lower temp. The first test I did with it I actually burned the wood. The item is very useful for transfer of patterns but it does take some getting used to. I am going to attempt to use a dimmer switch to lower the working temp to prevent over heating of the wood I am working with. I will say though, it saves me a lot of time with transfer of patterns as my hands have a problem with cramping up on me. This tool saves me time and cuts down on the risk of missing parts of the pattern when tracing.

The Wall Lenk pattern transfer tool does a great job of getting a chip carving pattern, carving pattern, scroll saw pattern or for that matter any pattern printed on a laser printer of copy machine, onto the wooden surface. One thing you need to watch out for though is over heating and scorching. When you use it to check the temperature touch the tip to a board to soak off the excess heat first. When the tip no longer scorches the surface of the wood you can transfer the pattern without burning the paper. Also remember when you are done unplug the tool as if left to overheat it can cause fires or at least cause the tool to break.

This is a new technique; at least, it's new to me. You can use the transfer tool to transfer laser-printed images onto cotton (must be cotton) fabric. What kind of images? Any kind, coloured or B&W. That's the reason the item is almost sold out this week. Look on-line for instructions.

Like I said this tool does a nice job transfering my chip carving patters to wood. Wood needs to be sanded smooth (up to 220 grit sanding paper)If not sanded smoothly you can get some distortion on the transfer. As someone else mentioned in another review that the initial heat up, the tool can scorch the pattern and wood,to avoid this I keep a piece of scrap wood near by to rub the tool on, until the scorching stops.THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT WAS THAT THE BASE WAS TOO FLIMSY, AND I HOPED THE PRODUCT WOULD LAST MORE THAN 5 MONTHS.

I read all of the reviews and did all of my research before buying this neato little tool. I tried yesterday all day to get an image transferred and it didn't work as well as I would've liked. The first transfer was terrible. The second was better. I darkened the image, sanded my surface, printed on my laser printer, prepped the wood with gel medium mixed with acrylic paint, and the image was better, but not good. I could see the faces at least this time, but not gift worthy. I think this would work great for letters and basic pictures, but not intricate pieces with faces and such. I hope you all have better a time with it than I did, and if you have any tricks or tips, please let me know!

I like this for what it is, But in all honesty it's so crude.

Pros:
heats up fast and allows you to work very soon after plugging it in
plenty of heat (also could be a con, see below)
love that they included a little stand (also could be a con, see below)
priced right
saves me losing quality from using transfer paper and having to retrace once on the wood

Cons:
SO crude. this reminds me more of a prison coffee heater than a tool. not even an on off switch? seriously?
Needs a deluxe model that has variable heat
No on off switch? really?
since there's not much to this there are also very few safety features. it has no auto shut off, has absolutely zero control over temp
Simply too hot. I didn't know this at first and plugged it in well in advance of using it. By the time i grabbed it, i set it on the paper and it almost immediately burned the paper and scorched the wood. However now that i know this i adjust accordingly.

Really this could be a great tool. with just minor improvements which are actually pretty critical, it could be ten times safer

NEEDS:
on/off switch
AUTO SHUT OFF/Sleep
Resistors allowing ADJUSTABLE temperatures
could use a stand that doesn['t just fall over, however, I do like that it includes a stand. though i'll admit i built a proper cradle for it myself after the first use.

I have several complaints which i itemized, however, I must rate this based on what it claims to be versus how it stacks up. It doesn't claim to have any of those things it lacks, so i knew going in they weren't there. Since that is the case, all we can really fairly do is rate whether it comes on, stays on, transfers the pattern and speed of initial warm up. All of which it performs as promised. So i left one star off

this product was very finicky. i used it only once, and i did not get the result i wanted. also it tends to burn the wood surface and has only one heat setting, so while your struggling to make the transfer you end up singing the wood even if your careful. i even tried a few different types of printer, no help

It did what it claimed to do.

It isn`t the best made but it does the job over and over. To me that is what really counts.
