Editorial Reviews

Naturally 7 are a unique wonder. Seven young men from New York whose voices construct the most amazing harmonies and replicate the sounds of a variety of instruments so well that they decided that their album would be just that. Only voices. No instruments. Wall Of Sound is an astonishing body of work. It is an upbeat, positive, optimistic record that bucks the trend on every level. Heavily influenced by R&B, Gospel and Motown, this band arranges and produces their own tracks, adding a distinctive element to them. Chock full of classic tracks such as 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'More Than Words', and the self penned 'Wall Of Sound', the entire album is something completely different. 15 tracks. Universal. 2009.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Mix May 3, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I saw these guys on a late night TV show and had to get a disk!
I went through the Amazon selection and kind of randomly picked this one since there a few tunes on it that I recognized.
Their voices, and the mix and arrangements of them is just awesome. There were a few tunes that weren't in my taste range, but there were more that were.
The guys sing acapella, using their voices at times to sound like instruments. However, this disk does have a few tracks with electronic rhythm and such. Still really good though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishing April 21, 2010
By JoeW
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
These guys are not to be believed. Inventive, soulful and funky without a trace of formula in their work. You will need to pinch yourself throughout this CD to remind yourself that this is an a cappella group. Despite what one reviewer says here (and what your ears will insist you hear) there are no musical instruments anywhere on this album. There is but one exception to this: Track 7, "What I'm Lookin' 4" features a sample of the Supremes' classic "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" On this, the band builds an amazing homage to mothers. It is as seamless as it is inspired.

For the downside? Not every song is as brilliant as most of this album, so it suffers from 'the curse of the CD'. The album as a whole would probably be stronger had they left a couple songs off, But hey. That's why we have programmable players and playlists. If you're still not sold, search YouTube for them. You'll see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Naturally 7 - Wall of Sound February 1, 2012

Fantastic CD!! Naturally 7 is an all-vocal group (little to no instruments) and has a great sound. Listeners will be most familiar with the songs the group has chosen to cover (Broken Wings by Mister Mister - In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins) but the group generally re-writes the verse melodies giving a classic song a newer feel. They also cover other songs, but keep them intact, as well as write original songs. I stumbled across this group and when I heard the songs on their website, I had to own this CD! You should won't be disappointed! Kind of a Boys II Men feel with more of a hip-hop vibe.

5.0 out of 5 stars great CD October 11, 2009

I have enjoyed this CD so much. The fresh sounds brought to some great old favorites are innovative. I love that all the "instruments" are voices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Naturally 7 January 21, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
These seven young men use their natural voices to create beautiful music. The pieces they have chosen are timeless. I have given copies to people younger and older than myself, (I'm proudly 53). I have played it in my classroom of mostly 11 year olds and they love it enough to write down the title. Music that can appeal to that wide an age span, that's good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Voices! July 22, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great music. I enjoyed the CD from beginning to end. Their harmonies are fantastic, but what really blew me away was their abilities to imitate all kinds of instruments! They're the group and band all rolled into one! If I hadn't seen them on TV and on DVD, there's no way anyone could've convinced me that "the instruments" were in fact their voices! If you get their DVD (one is called Live at Montreux 2007), I guarantee that your mouth will drop! They do drums, percussion, keyboards, bass, lead guitar, horns, harmonica, and scratching (not the itching kind, but the vinyl on turntable kind). One of the guys sounds just like a guitar...Jimi Hendricks would be proud. Another guy does the drums and percussion (you won't be able to tell the difference between him and the real thing). As I listened to the CD, I had to keep reminding myself that all of the sounds I was hearing were made by human voices.

I found this because of a single I heard on a jazz station and picked it up. I like most of the songs on it which is rare for me.

These guys are absolutely amazing - heard them in concert and had to buy! Their covers are stellar! As inspiring as Bobby McFerrin, more contemporary in sound.

If you want a CD to take along during that boring freeway ride, this will calm Road Rage! I'm here in So. Calf. where traffic is our middle name no matter what time of day or nite.
